Ive got a d16y8 minime setup with the 2gen/4gen si dizzy and ngk spark plugs
Ive got some lifetime warranty 7mm wires from autozone that a guy gave me.
And im wanting to go to better wires. I found some 10.3 Obx's on ebay
and im wondering if its a good idea.

If i would get any gains. what might i expect.

why are you wanting better wires? for my hp? becuase thats bs. you wont gain any performance from them. just save your wires. and spend your money on a nice cam for your car

Bigger wires won't matter unless you are running a serious coil. I really doubt your car is that heavily modded.

 

Actually we built an ef with an obd1 gsr and stock honda wires made the best power. dyno proven. But they gotta be honda wires.

 

i hear of alot of people saying to use 8mm ngks
would that be better over the 10.3mm or is it still best to use 7mm
I got these ngk spark plugs and i want them to have the best spark.
When i said gains i didnt mean straight horespower, i meant over things as well, like gas mileage, and acceleration or torque.

Now i swear, i use to go to this racing shop and they had this current machine to show the difference in spark power between stock and aftermarket spark plug wires and it supposedly wasnt a trick cause you could switch the wires and spark plugs and still get the same effect. But anyway i think they were 9.3mm wires and they had a big blue clean looking electric current/arch amd the stock wires had a nasty dark small arch.

So are you guys says that less current is going to be better for your car

 

I wouldn't put any autozone stuff on my honda its all sh#!. I would use the ngk wires or go buy some honda wires, i don't think that see to much gain maybe in gas mileage and very lil in acceleration if any. I don't think any wire over 8mm is going to do you any good but wast your $$ unless your buy a MSD setup.

MSD is an aftermarket ignition. Get some NGK blues.

 

MSD stands for Multiple Spark Discharge. It's a patented design that fires the spark plug multiple times every time the unit is triggered.
What will a MSD unit do for me? Easier starts, more horsepower, better throttle response are the expected results from a MSD capacitive discharge ignition - whether it's an analog or digital system.
With the multiple spark discharge of a MSD ignition, it is finally possible to completely ignite the air/fuel mixture in the cylinder - giving you more horsepower. In a 2-stroke engine this is important. When you suddenly give the engine "the gas" after idling, the engine will bog down. This is the result of a weak stock ignition trying to burn off the excess fuel that has built up in the cylinder. The stock ignition's weak spark can't do the job. A MSD ignition has a hotter spark to start with, and along with the multiple spark discharge, a MSD ignition will thoroughly ignite the air/fuel mixture.

msd- msd is an ignition settup which give you more spark.
spark= good!
it will essentially make you go faster.
thats also why people change their spark plugs

so msd ignition is that pretty box thats always bolted to peoples chassis right, its not a distributor.

Ive heard that msd's burn out coils and ignitors quickly is that true?

 

I would buy either OEM or NGK spark plug wires. Some of the high horsepower guys are still using OEM or NGK spark plug wires.

 

it is not a gain you will notice. a good set of NGK wires will out perform OBX wires IMHO, i personally have been using msd's with no issues. most people here swear by NGK's though.

 

yes there are msd ignitions for your crx, I run the SCI-L sport compact ignition with ss blaster coil. That same setup will work on your crx.

 

dood.. you have a 16 second honda civic.. spark plug wires are the last thing you need... lol.

MSD is kinda pricy, any good knock offs?

 

i bought some 8mm ACCEL wires from ebay for 30 shipped and they worked great. i can feel the imporvement like at 6,00 rpm.. lol.. i have a 94 DX.. its a tad bit better on power and my gas mileage got a tad bit better.

I bought NGK blues and didn't notice a damn bit of difference. With a stock motor, you will only see improvements if your current wires are messed up. Plug wires are maintence, not performance on a stock engine.

The stock ignition system (coil, igniter, cap, rotor, plugs and WIRES) can easily handle 300whp without breaking a sweat - just stick with it.

Its been proven time and time again....
