Default How is this deal? (94 blk eg coupe 107k)

Haven't gotten a chance to see the car in person yet. It is a black 94 EX coupe with 107k miles. The guy is asking 3000. He thinks he is the second owner (he bought the car at 85k). The exterior and interior are in very good shape with the exception of a dent on the left quarter and hood near that area (cant really see in the pics). Also the bumpers look like they have almost no clear coat left. The timing belt needs to be changed imediately as I believe it is the original timing belt (yikes) and I also believe the clutch is stock.

Just wondering what you guys would pay for this car. I appriciate the input/advice. I was thinking I'd offer the guy 2500 and go up to 2700 or 2800 if necessary, assuming the car drives well and is in good shape when I see it in person.

Here are some pics:

Thanks again guys.

One stupid question... this car has the d16z6 like the eg si hatch correct?

Looks like a great deal to me!

Yes, if it is an EX, it will have a d16z6.

Seems to be in good shape and that's a pretty good price...

Depends on how much rust is on the body. If it is rust free, that's an okay price and I'd definitely consider it if everything else looks good. If it has any small bubbles (or worse), get them to lower the price because you're going to want to get that fixed ASAP to keep it from spreading. If the rust is getting pretty bad, I wouldn't bother.

Change the timing belt/water pump ASAP before the belt breaks and potentially damages the engine. This should run you around $300-350.

If the clutch still grabs fine, it doesn't matter if it is original. I've seen clutches last 250,000+ miles.

Have the coolant checked for signs of head gasket failure. This is common for D16Z6 engines at ~120,000 miles or thereabouts.

Make sure all gears shift fine, especially 3rd. Bad synchronizers indicate abuse.

Fading bumpers is common and often results from neglect of paint care/wax. You'll probably want to have those repainted.

Since it needs a t-belt, has dents, and the bumpers are faded, try offering them $2500.

Hope these tips help. Good luck.

If everything is mechanically sound, then it sounds like a good deal. It looks really nice from the pictures. Get it! :D

is there anyone that could run a carfax for me on this car? the seller really doesnt know much at all about the history of the car.

the car is a little more beatup than i thought (not really visible in either picture). there are a few minor rust spots and the engine has some surface rust on it although it runs well. Other than that the only downsides are that the check engine light is on and the exhaust (aftermarket apexi) is rattling against something once in a while. it still seems like a pretty good deal tho. i know the seller will go down to 2800 and i may be able to get him down some more...

Is the car completely stock? if so I would say it's a good deal, I know I'm one of those people who dump a **** load of money into a car and then can't get half of it back when I'm selling it. don't make sure it doesn't leak water into the trunk, smoke burn oil/leak oil. you know all the other things that could be wrong with something. you're really not giving us a whole lot to go by to let you know if it's a good deal or not. BE MORE SPECIFIC ABOUT THE CAR. and if you don't know anything about it, you really should find out before you even think about buying it.

the car drove very solid. it handled very well, the brakes worked well, the suspension was solid and it had some nice power (a lot more than i expected). like i said the cel was on and i dont know what code it was throwing b/c i didnt know how to check at the time. the car did not appear to burn any oil and the engine looked good (no leaks of any kind) except for the surface rust on various parts (head etc). the car is totally stock except for an aftermarket exhaust + "hi-flow" cat and jvc headunit. the tires and radiator were basically brand new. the trunk appeared to have some like stuff inside it like there was water damage or something. i wasnt quite sure exactly what to make of that. as far as the exterior there are several small rust spots and a few minor dings including one relatively major one. the only thing i dont know anything about is weather it has a clean title which is why i need a carfax.

if anyone could run the carfax for me i'd really appriciate it. just pm me and i'll send u the vin. this is my first car and its a pretty major purchase for me.

thx guys

honestly, I would make sure it's a clean title before buying. also find out what code it's throwing that way you're not purchasing something that may cost you a bundle to have fixed.
