Default How make sure motor swap is legit ???

So I bought a new 93 DX Hatch... The timing belt broke and I got it swapped with another DX motor. The mech. told me it was a JDM motor with 20-50 k miles... Is there any way to verify the miles? Also, I have'nt picked it up yet but when I went buy to look at it the other day I (and I only got to look for a few seconds) but it looked like the valve cover was differnt and the oil stick was on the right side not the front middle. Would a 96 and up motor work fine in my 93? any help is much appreciated!!!

Default Can Anyone tell me what this is???

I got the car back...
What I cant understand is why the dip stick is on the right???
Can anyone tell whats going on with this engine?
I can see that they had to cut the timing belt cover to get it to fit and I know that when I first saw it, there was no honda logo on it, they added it.
thanks
Hershel

the newer sohc come with the dip stick on the right, and i highly doubt someone would go out of their way to steal a stock dx motor

Umm..yeah, but it's def 96 and up non vtec motor. I don't know much about single cams, due to don't care much about them. But if I'm not mistaken they reused your old intake and exhaust manifold's. Newer dx motors have a diffent IM with the TB mounted up in the center of the IM. Plus the reason the timing cover is cut so they could fit the side engine mount bracket on ther from your original motor. Cause without them changing it the mount would have never bolted up.

BTW...it's a 96 and up motor be happy with it. It should have low miles.

well first lets go over JDM. Japan Domestic Market. this means motors that are produced for a car in japan, they take out this motor, and ship it to people like us over here. thats like saying they dont make SOHC cars in the united states.

So basically what your telling me is that no cars in japan are produced with SOHC engines?

im lost man

that motor was definitely not made here, and probably is a jdm motor. i have a sohc zc vtec, us equivalent was a d16z6. and more specifically, i've never just seen "D16A" ,...its usually d16a6/a1 etc....

so yeah its not us-spec.

hey, im not sure so dont flame me on this but i think that motor could have come from Australia as well. I remember reading a thread on here about a guy in Australia saying that the y7 motors down there came with the y8 manifolds. im not sure if the motor he had was a d16a, but from the pictures above, it looks like a y7 with y8 IM. ill try to see if i can verify this.

I've got another question for you guys... I want to replace the spark plug wires, do I need to get 96 and up wires or 92-95 wires? or does it not matter? Thanks again!
