D15B Dual VTEC
Hi everyone, my friend just purchased a 'new' engine, it's a D15B Z7 and it's got a P2J head fitted with a little '95 written on the rightmost corner.
It's got two VTEC solenoids and the cam has two sets of lobes - one VTEC kicks in at about 3200 RPM and the second one comes on at 6200 RPM, with the limiter being at 7600 RPM.
Needed to know if this is the engine being talked about when I see D15B mentioned in this forum?
If so, can anyone pls advise where to get more aggressive cams for this.
thks / brgds

This dual stage vtec d15b isn't the jdm d15b vtec motor that everyone is talking about. I believe that the dual stage vtec motors were in the later model civics in japan and the one that is talked about on the forum most of the time is the singe stage vtec d15b off a 92-95 civic vti

So you're telling me the kid has a camshaft with four lobes per cylinder and the same number of rocker arms to correspond with them?
I call...what's the word I'm looking for?...oh yeah: Bullshit.

Dude, if you wanna suppose things by yourself, rather than ask, pls go ahead..
My dear, the cam has a low lift at the first VTEC rpm, and at second VTEC, the rocker pins lock in place, providing full lift.
This used to be one of the best engines we get down here, so a lot of ppl are still using them, including us.

Umm.. im guessing the p2j is an obd 2 ecu? other than that , i never heard of it.

Well it IS a dual stage VTEC solution from Honda, combining the economy of their VTEC-E engines, with the power of the D15B SOHC 130ps engine. Below 3000 RPM, only 12 of the 16 valves work, while after 3200 rpm, first VTEC engages, and then if the rpm exceeds 6000, then it's a wild cam behaviour! Pretty neat, if I might add.
Yes indeed, I'm in the Punjab. Where you at?
Oh we got lots of cars down here, Hondas are the ones usually souped up, but now that taxes have gone down on the bigger cars, we have some cool ones like the Subaru Imprezza WRX Sti, the Nissan 350Zs, Mazda RX8s etc. etc.

Ignore acridictus, he is just mad because he was molested repeatedly while growing up. the motor you are asking about is the 3 stage vtec from the 96-00 Civic ferio vti read about it here http://asia.vtec.net/article/EK3Vi/
it combines vtec-e and vtec power into one engine for economy and power
the ecu is a p2j its an obd2 ecu

Noted man, that's very surprising man, we always thought it was a 10.0 or something!! So..if we were to run 10.1 pistons on this, it would really fly, would it not?!
