Default over heating problem (maybe)

Ok, this might be a dumb question but I am a bit confused. So once my car warms up nad im driving for maybe 15-20 minutes with it fully warmed up i will come to a stop light and my temp guage will start to rise, now the wierd thing is. that if I just rev the engine a little bit it will go down, and once I start moving the car the temp guage goes back to normal. Well the guage has gone pretty high up before but it never smells like it is over heating. When I say the guage goes back down when I start to move my car it rapidly goes back to the normal spot. Could this just be a bad theromostat? please help.

Yes, I had this issue with my CRX, I replaced the thermostat and the water pump(wasnt in good condition plus it was leaking) and it fixed my issue, I would think it is the thermostat though.

it goes almost all the way up.. but I always notice it and i am afraid to let it go all the way I would say about 2 milimeters before the end line.

sounds exactly like my crx, when it did that i would drop it in 2nd and drive around in high rpms at low speeds for about 10-15 seconds and it would drop back down.
