Default Idleing problem

Yesterday my temp guage on my car went pretty high about 3/4 of the way up on the guage so I turned the car off and everything. Had oil and water, I started the car back up and the temp went to normal and stayed so i drove to Autozone, to buy a thermostat, and then home which is like 20 miles away with no problems. I installed the thermostat and started it up it ideled normal. Well this morning I started it up to let it warm up and when I went out there to leave it sounded like it was trying to die the Idle would drop and then go to normal. It was about 20 degrees this morning, could it have just been the cold. Yesterday morning it was about 28 degrees and I had no problems at all. Question is what could cause this, could the car have gotton to hot and messed something up, but it drove home with no problems, or could I have the wrong thermostat, dont know how that would effect it. Any Ideas. Oh and by the way my car temp guage was at normal temp when it was idleing bad. Thanks in advance. Engine is B16a2 put in 4 days ago.

did you get all the air out of your cooling system? did you fill it back up with the correct mix of coolant/water? did you leave a connection or sensor unplugged?

I let it idle for a couple minutes with the cap of the radiator and added water as it went down, not sure if it has the right mix, all plugs are good.

does your B16 have a bleed valve at the upper radiator hose connection point? if it does, bleed the air from there. do all coolant adding with the heater all the way HOT

Do you mean with the heater on like full blast, I had just added water and coolant not too long ago and I just put the stuff in without bleeding or anything and had no problems.

have your temp control all the way HOT, this will open the valve to your heater core and let it fill with coolant. if you want to make sure the whole system is filled, you need to wait until the fan comes on to check the fluid level... leave the cap off and let the car idle until the fan comes on or the temp gauge goes to normal. this way the thermostat is open and everything is circulating.

if there is air in the coolant your idle will fluctuate repeatedly and not every few seconds or so...

did you have this idle problem before the overheat? is this the first time weather hits 20 degrees?
