89 crx si brake problem
i just got my brakes fixed at brake masters. i got my master cylinder, calipers, pads, rotors done and they said they might smoke for a little bit. well my car slows down all the time while i drive without pressing on the brake and my pedal is really stiff. and i have drove 140 miles after all the work has been done and now they are doin this. any help or advice would be great.
Well the car will slow down even if you don't press the brake pedal, its physics. The question is how fast does it slow down? As for the pedal pressure how stiff is the pedal?
Dont take it back to brake masters odds are they just dont know what there doing, and the'll rip you off. If the care is slowing down when not depressing the brake you should determine if it is the rear slowing it down
or the front brakes. To do this when your driving pull the e-brake slightly and i mean slightly dont yank on it likee your trying to stop the car if you feel the e-brake engaging then that means its probably not the rear brakes slowing you down if you cant feel the rear engaging then that might mean they are already touching the rotors if this is the case a simple adjustment to the rear brakes is all thats needed another thing that could be wrong is that they didnt bleed the brake system correctly if your brake pedal is too stiff there might still be air in the system if this is the case take to a mechanic shop and have them bleed the brake system another possibility is that the front bakes are frozen and your getting a bunch of drag from the brake pads pushing on the rotor because the caliper pistons are frozen outward again take to a shop unless you have some knowhow.

usually, when people get their brake pads, calipers, rotors, etc done, it shouldn'ty smoke at all. I work at a mechanic shop on the East Coast and i've never seen in my 3 years working there smoke come from the brakes
depending on how well the shop cleaned the packing oil off of the rotor it may smoke slightly for a few miles but not for 100+ miles.
As far as the braks engaging without you hittin the pedal I would take it to a midas and have them do a free inspection to see what they find out. Then take it back to the original shop to get it fixed.
Now you said you can hardly press the pedal to the floor...
You shouldn't be able to press it that far down. It should stop about even with the gas pedal. If it goes to the floor there is a problem. Now if you stand on the pedal you might be able to get it almost to the floor but it is not a wise thing to do.

If your talking about the one rod, thats on the master cylinder and if you mess with it and adjust it wrong, it could be that your brakes are always applyed.

seems to me like they might have messed with the booster adjustment. Try adjusting the booster rod to make it shorter or take it back to them, so they can fix it.
