Default DA Clutch Install

Friend of mine just got a 92 integra. he needs to replace the clutch but cant figure out how to get the tranny out, he told me there are some bolts he just cant get to. hes asked around locally and he was told the easiest way to do it would be to pull the engine. anyone know of a way to get the tranny out without pulling the engine? ive replaced clutches in 94+ integras and never had to pull the engine but I never worked on earlier year integras. any help would be appreciated as Im gonna go take a look at his car this week and its gonna be a long drive.

Shouldn't be any different from pulling a hydro tranny but instead of removing the slave cylinder from the tranny you pull the cables off the cable tranny.

How the hell are you able get it out through the top...I don't even think that's possible is it? Taking down through bottom would be wasy easier if anything. Either way. all taht work. i jsut pull the whole engine and do it taht way. Gives you time to work on some stuff while it's uot anyways

I've also done about 4 swaps in my own car and a few in EG civicis. In the DA I jsut never really thought it coudl squeeze through the top. And if anything. you are taking MORE out jsut to take it out from up top. Taking it out from the bototm is simple mounts and linkage, cable, axles, and alst time I checked. The tranny was not that hard to drag on the ground. Now if you take it from the top. you not only have to remove the battery, the battery tray, but also the intake. and to me it looks as if the distributor is in the way as well. So please explain how you go about donig it. I fidn it easier taking the entire engine out as it hardly takes any logner then doing just tranny. I do see how its easily possible in an EG/DC chassis.

there is no way you can pull the tranny straight out from the top on a da.... maybe if you drop it down and turn it on its side and pull it out....

This is exactly what I said to myself before I read tch's post!! It physically can't come out the top...somebody is talking through his ****, and clearly has never looked into an engine bay!

I've done loads of boxes and clutches, they're all the same on any FWD car with a transverse mounted engine, be the g/box on the left or right...and they don't come out the top.

Make sure the car is sufficiantly supported, do not try to remove a gearbox with the car sitting on a jack, be sure it's not going to fall off whatever stands you use because there'll be a lot of shaking done taking out and putting in the box.

Have a friend to help you.
Remove the air intake...you'll see why!
Disconnect the battery, (sometimes taking out the battery and tray will give you more room)
Disconnect the starter.
Remove the clutch cable/pipe if it's a hydraulic clutch.
Disconnect the reverse light switch wiring.
Remove any wiring / pipes attached to the 'box
Remove the speedo cable.
Unhook the gear shift linkage (make sure to use the correct sized drift punch to tap out the roll pin, if you spread the end , it'll be a total bitch to take out)
Drain the box oil (if you don't want it to spill when you pop the shaft)
Remove the r/h shaft.
Support the engine take off the mounts atached to the 'box.
Unbolt the bell housing (gearbox to engine) bolts (you have to drop the exhaust downpipe to get the two bottom ones)
Pull out the 'box from underneath!

Make sure the new clutch fits the splines on the 'box and that it's lined up properly, otherwise you'll have fun trying to get that 'box back in!

I think thats everything (I'm writing this from memory)

Good luck.

Thanks for the replies, friend finally got the clutch he ordered so we will be doing the install this coming weekend. Does anyone know if the subframe has to be removed to get the tranny out?
