SOHC ZC VTEC??? Is it the same thing as a D16Z6??? Whats the difference???
I am looking for a D16Z6 to put into my CRX but they are pretty hard to come by. I came across the ZC VTEC on a few sites and it looks pretty much identical to a Z6 is it the same thing but JDM??? It says ZC on the block too, as far as parts go what usdm parts would I have to buy to maintain this motor as a daily driver??
SOHC ZC is non vtec. DOHC ZC is non vtec. the only 2 SOHC VTEC motors are the usdm d16z6 and the jdm d15b. I see you live in funky town, im like 5 min away in agg town and i got a d16z6 block and head i could prolly sell you
Um i think you are mistaken homie. I'm pretty sure that it really was a 1.6,SOHC vtec that didnt say D16z6 on the block. Only because I saw the photo of the engine code on the block. It either is an SOHC VTEC ZC from japan or its a ZC motor with a Z6 head of something.
JDM only had SOHC Non-vtec (ZC), DOHC non-vtec. (ZC).
The only SOHC VTEC I can think of that is the D15B. I know there is a 3-stage vtec, but that is mainly for fuel economy.

There is infact a sohc vtec zc..Its basically the same as the d16z6 except it supposedly has around 140hp and comes in the jdm cars..

I dont think europe cars have zc motors..None of the edm motors ive seen have had zc stamped on the blocks..Even the motor in the 88-91 civic over there that is identical to the zc motor is called something different,,,Like d16a8/9..Or something like that..

I think a lot of the confusion around the sohc vtec zc comes from the fact it wasn't offered in a Civic, but rather the Domani.

With all the misinformation spread across the internet, this post is to clarify the misconceptions about “ZC” engines.
In earlier “Hybrid” years (1996-1997) many people were buying DOHC 1590cc engines stamped “ZC” from engine importers. These engines were popular upgrades for Civic/CRX chassis providing ~130ps with bolt in ease. This engine was called “THE ZC” for quite a number of years, and even today people still consider this twin cam the ONLY ZC. Engine importers received a variety of other engines stamped “ZC”. The “ZC” stamp alone cannot identify the engine’s designation. The only thing one can assume is that ALL engines stamped “ZC” displaces 1590cc. “ZC” stamped engines were offered with a number of design variations throughout the years of production.
Here’s a TIMELINE of the different “ZC” engines manufactured that I have noted thus far:
