186-217 miles

impractical? depends how fast you go on the hwy. generally speaking i keep it around 65-70.
FYI: I get 280+ mpg and when i fill up, i fill up around 10.5 gallons.
im sure if i did some tuning i could probably get into the low 30s mpg range.

Higher sustained RPM's will not alter your fuel efficiency like you think it does.
The only concern I would see you having is if you have a very droaning exhaust tone, and do not like the raised noise of being a few hundred RPM's higher while cruising.
If I drive my car nicely, I can get 28-29mpg. ATS final drive.

Personally, I think the USDM version should have come out with the JDM final drive................and a six speed tranny.
As dax-es mentioned, it is perfect for city driving, as well as the race track. I'm not a huge fan of highway driving with the JDM FD, but I'll live with it.
The pros out way the cons.

FULLY STOCK, eh? LOL!!!!
FULLY STOCK, eh? LOL!!!!
Thanks again guys..some great info. I dont want to warp the thread..but here it goes...
I guess i'll fill you in on the whole story....try and keep to the short side of it
I had a 97 lude and turbo civic. Got tired of babying the 2 cars and having them sit in the garage all day long. Also tired of driving a beater daily driver. I sold all three and got a 98 R, few mods, 87km, CW. Looked at 14 R's before i baught it. Near impossible to find one not accidented, theft recovery, beat to hell, or damaged. Anyway....Amazing car. Never have i ever drivin a FWD car that was so impressive. Never got boring, put a smile on my face everytime i got in it. A true joy to drive.
However i do a lot of highway driving and the drone at 120km/h at near 5000rpm (with comptech catback), no cruise, and loud on the highway, cold in winter with less insulation, bad on gas, as well as contsant fear of getting it stolen... a few weeks ago sold it. It wasnt for sale, but i got an offer and i know how hard to sell these cars are in canada with insurance in some provinces..so let it go. Regretting it now...
So im back into the car search. I'm trying not to look like a total idiot and go buy another R, but all the local ones for sale are below my standards anyway.
I have found a 99 SIR with a JDM b18c swap. Its has a few add ons including clutch, flywheel, jdm header, JDM final drive, vafc, aem v2, suspension...the car is in amazing condition and swap was done right. Owner has taken good care of the car, and im a pretty pick **** bastard when it comes to cars general condition. The car has cruise removed, as well as AC removed.
I'm very seriously interested in this car....however this will be even worse on gas then the R, higher revving, no cruise, no ac (r had it), not as fun to drive, and higher insurance for some reason.
I have just dug myslef into a real hole.... any advice?
Here are my previous rides:
Prelude
Civic (Turbo..i'm not a ricer...thais car was made soley for shows)
Type R

Completely stock 97 JDM ITR in an EK hatch, so I don't know if that counts as stock or not
If I drive to conserve gas, I get about 30mpg with an 11 gallon tank, so 330 total miles with both city and highway mixed.
That seems pretty good but coming from a stock d16y7 that got 350-400 to a fillup, it kinda makes you save ahead for gas.
Engine currently has the stock intake with an aftermarket filter, jdm itr header, carsound cat, ctr b-pipe, spoon n1 exhaust, but as far as the motor, its completely stock internally.

i found that my mileage is about the same w/the jdm FD vs when i had the stock US FD.
reason is during city driving I can actually cruise around in 4th or 5th now and keep a lower RPM. that pretty much makes up the highway driving's extra few hundred RPM difference.
I get around 250/gallon if I have some mixed driving with an occassional redline romp.

I was getting between 17 and 19 MPG at VIR this past February with the 4.93 for a 2 day event, averaged between 35 and 45 degree days.
That's still significantly better than my truck on the highway regularly, (averages 16 MPG). Forget towing
(between 5 and 10 MPG).
