Default Need Advice on LSD

At my shop, for 6 years I have been a dealer for Quaife and have used nothing else for road racing our crx's, nor my customer cars.

On a fresh project we are doing a drag crx, and my customer is using a dohc ZC with the ZC trans for equal length axles. The motor is done, to the tune of 9k, went to use the ZC trans with factory LSD and it was a broken diff.

Now, despite numerous phone calls and chatting with Kaaz USA, Quaife (Auto tech sport tunning), I haven't found a suitable true LSD for the ZC, other than I had to go buy an open ZC diff, and I am being forced to use the Phantom Grip as the only upgrade for this gearbox......

Do any of you have a SOLID part no, for a true LSD replacement for the dohc ZC gearbox?
I am looking for solid info. not a bunch of gibberish please.....The diff is holding up the gearbox build as of today, and this gearbox is stopping the motor install and completing the whole flippin project. The crx has been on jack stands since July last year, we are this close to finishing the car and the track opens next month, and my customer wants to get his car out here in Ohio when the weather breaks in a couple weeks, so any helpful info would be much appreciated.

pics of the build are in the roll cage section of my site
see link below

thanks to all who submit good wholesome replies

AFAIK, there was never a factory LSD for a ZC trans. I could be wrong.

I'd have to recommend heavily that you stay away from Kaaz and Phantom Grip or any other "add on piece" for a stock differential, especially the Phatom Grip. It ***** **** up, plain and simple. No gibberish there.

Quaife Auto Torque Biasing Differential. That's where it's at. I couldn't see using anything else in a tranny besides the stock diff.

Ok, your post was not helpful in any way....thanks.. I thought I asked for solid part no.'s no gibberish.....your profanity is also uncalled for when expressing a point.

"There was never a factory LSD for the ZC...." Ok, then what do I have sitting on my engine building table at my shop then? Don't reply if you don't know what your even talking about...

Thanks for not reading my intial post....

"I swear, asking for help on here is like asking a teenager for change when he delivers your pizza, total lack of the abilities to read and respond intelligently."

Go with a quaife dude....read the post dipstick...I have been a quaife dealer for 6 years...they don't make one....and if you haven't owned a phantom grip, don't comment on it then.....

2-Options only....Considering your situation.

1 Your customer will have to live with an open diff until the industries that be decide to make one.

2 Go back to an unequal length axle tranny from a SOHC D-series and then run the Quaife or diff of choice.

Ok I did a little searching and supposedly CUSCO made a clutch pack type LSD for the ZC transmission. Supposedly the part number formats changed a while back so you may want to get in touch with them to see if they still stock it or know where you could obtain one.

Chris I haven't gotten anything solid on finding you an LSD for that ZC...Looks like you may be stuck with the open diff

You are wrong, we've run oem lsd zc trannies before. Where do you get your info from?

I think any aftermarket comapnies that used to have them around, no longer have them in production.

Ok, seeing how I always wanted to be a mechanical engineer instead of a race car driver (that's a lie) lol, I decided to dig deeper on this issue.
Here are my results:

No One currently has a true ZC diff, just like I suspected. If so, it is not on the market, or is tucked away on Mugens shelf in a museum in Tokyo somewhere.
I thought that maybe there would be one out there from Mugen left over from the Honda Cup in Japan, but no such luck.

So what we have decided to do is engineer (with help of course) a custom intermediate shaft on our autocad and have it built. It will take 4 weeks to have it built, and It will use the equal length axles as well. The custom intermediate shaft will have the Si inner spline diameter, so we can use the Quaife or whatever you choose for an LSD with the "snt intermediate" shaft.
So if a diff isn't out there, so what, I had to change diff's because of the intermediate shaft, so I just decided to shell out the big bucks and have a custom intermediate shaft made, so we can use the si diff in the zc or si box and use either the equal length axles.....

Now, do any of you have an interest in this? I am being told the custom made shaft will come, cryo'd, shotpeened, heat treated, with factory seals, and is being produced by a friend of mine who does custom CNC machine work for gear boxes, and has been in business almost 30 years now..he quoted me at about 400 bucks for each shaft.....pricy, yep, custom....Hell yeah....run the zc with a quaife (since I am a dealer for quaife), and have custom drag axles both equal length...not cheap, but fast....

The main axles will be made for me by Raxles, with custom ends on both sides for this intermediate shaft. cost about 320 for both sides.

so to do the math- (speed has a value)
axles- 320
quaife- 900-1000 (or other ?)
snt inter. shaft 400 or so ? don't know for certain yet

about 2k total....if you have a built d series, turbo, or zc this will open up a few options for your gear box building as well....

Feedback, let me rephrase that, positive and constructive feedback from mature audiences welcome.....
production on the shaft will begin in 2-4 weeks with the first one's available in April/May....

If you have an interest in obtaining a shaft, shoot me an email to :
admin@sntautosports.com
We will put you on the news list, as the production begins on the shaft, we will send you updates and pricing.

I know the guys that I called would probably be interested to know:

Thanks to Gearspeed for sending me another ZC open diff in a HURRY!

HMotorsonline- where I got my ZC gear box, and the broken factory lsd, which they refunded for the broken diff overnight on the day I got the box..thanks for great service Steve!!!!!

Plus, Kaaz USA, King Motorsports (scott zellner), Quaife (autotech), Phantom Grip,
and Cusco Japan and USA, also the new OBX diff (ebay).....no diff from anyone....hard to believe.

Thanks to all for your help in helping me find a ZC LSD, despite the 0 qty. found.

You could alway weld the diff to close it. Spool style.

welding the diff is in my opinion just a band aid, I can do better than just weld up a diff, but thanks....besides, the car needs to turn on the street as well...

Jimmy-
I have used ats r and p gears, a.s. is not my favorite guy to deal with, he is rather difficult in my opinion, so I will go a different route, thanks.
I need the diff not a gear selection, if ats has a diff for the zc, it would be news to me....send me a link if so....thanks

ok, I followed the link provided and the diff is available via cusco, special order, time from japan is 6-8 weeks and cost is over a grand....

honestly for that, I can have my custom shaft made, and get a quaife then I will still have equal length axles which is the goal....so no go on the diff, too much money for a one way diff.
