Default Be aware of Tow Trucks with more than 1 driver

So I had my girl pick me up today because I didn't want to leave my car at her house. And again the tow truck drivers have been in the parking area looking at cars. (see text)

Last night (3/16/05) in So Cal I was leaving my girl friends apt. (it was late). I came accross two tow truck guys looking through my car with flash lights and attempting to steal my car. They told me that they got a call that my car was blocking in other cars in the parking structure (I was blocking in my girl friends car and her brothers car). They were startled and they started to stutter as I approached them. They told me that they were still going to tow me, so I got into my car and attempted to leave, but low and behold they were blocking me in. after some time they left, but they got my lic. plate info. (which won't do any good, my mail and reg. doesn't go to my house.) I didn't get the name of the tow company (it was kinda dark) but they were new trucks, all black with gold writing on it. How many times do you see two tow truck drivers towing cars?

I work for a tow company. Sometimes 2 people go out, more so at night. Usually if we get a call to tow someones car out of a lot, there is a cop usually there at the car. In your case it sounds like someone was trying to scheme something up and take your car. Next time, get the companys name and call the owner of the garage to check or even some of the police. Maybe the employees are shady and the boss doesnt know, or maybe the wrecker was stolen.

If it is a legit to company, there should be a license number in bold letters on the fender or door of the truck on each side.

Sure does seem fishy to me. I would definitely keep a watchful eye on your car. Those idiots might be back.

Man, I wish I were there with you, we coulda kicked their asses on the spot. Anyway, what's a boot going to do to stop tow trucks if they have a flatbed? Won't they just have to drag it up onto the bed?

It depends on the capabilities of the truck and how the car is parked. I wonder, though, if they were desperate, how much effort it would take to drag a car onto a flatbed.

The only way to stop your car from being towed, is having in a garage or a place where the truck cannot go. Boots just make it harder to tow, and may cause damage to your car if dragged up the flatbed with a boot on.

Call the cops. If they say they are going to tow it DON'T give them keys and call the cops then. They can't tow your car if you are waiting for the cops to arrive.

Im not latino, but i take that in offense because you cant stereotype a race because of a damn statistic. Thats real wrong and has nothing to do with helping people not to get their car stolen.

Is it true that if you **** your wheels real far to one side, its real hard, or even impossible, for them to tow your car? If so, thats good advice. I really appreciate this thread because going to a school in a city with 3 major colleges means much towing is going on and that offers much cover for tow theives. Didnt know about ths

it makes it harder to tow with the wheels turned, but its not impossible. we use go jacks where i work to put underneath the tires, then the car can be pushed around without anyone being in it.

If you turn the wheels real sharp to one side, you make it very easy to get to your hood release cable, or even door locks (if you have power locks).
Don't do it, BAD IDEA.
