Default Semi Metallic Pads/Cold-Snowy Weather?

Long story short...

Used to live in "Sunny and Warm California".
Bought some Brembo blank rotors and Axxis Semi-Metallic Pads while in California.
Haven't been able to install them since I got married and moved to another state which is cold and snowy.

Question: Which will be better (stopping effectiveness/stopping distances)?

Semi-metallic brake pads versus Organic/Stock brake pads

(<u>Outdoor conditions:</u> Snowy, cold, and wet.)

I am not sure whether or not to install the semi-metallic brake pads since it does snow here. I have a feeling that my stopping distances will increase in cold weather while using these pads.

Does anyone have any experience using semi-metallic brake pads in cold/snowy weather?

I don't particularly see how the brake compound will be drastically affected by the snowy climate. Unless you get a race pad that requires hot temps (which shouldn't be used for the street anyways) I don't think you'll have any trouble.

The stock pads on my s2k are semi-metallic. While I don't drive it in the snow, it has see 40 degree temps and I have no trouble stopping.

Axxis, Hawk, EBC, Cobalt....they're all good all year round.

I went from EBC green stuff to OEM pads and it's the worst mistake of my life. I almost rear-ended someone after going back to OEM. Although the green stuff did not last too long in my car (1 year of city driving), I would rather have the better braking over these stupid OEM pads that don't stop worth crap.

I'm still looking for pads that have good braking and not too much dust... gotta bling once in a while... I don't want to be cleaning my rims everyday.

You had lots of brake dust with the green stuff pads? You shouldn't have, that's part of their 'claim to fame'. Now, the red stuff pads, those are a different story. But they are 'track day' pads.

I have Axxis Metal Masters with slotted Brembos and they've worked perfectly for me even down to -10ºF and snow. Only problem I've ever had was when the insides of my wheels literally got caked with snow/ice and I had to ride the brakes for 5 minutes to melt the snow off the rotors. (Shouldn't go drifting through parking lots in 2 ft of snow)

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it. So you never noticed increased stopping distances in the cold weather?

How about dusting? Did the Metal Masters produce more dust than stock/organic brake pads?

Thanks for everyones help.

maybe my post was a bit ambiguous... what I mean is that the green stuff produces barely any brake dust... however, I've heard some of these other "performance" pads are notorious for alot of dust...

ah, I understand now. lol Well, unfortunately, one of the sacrafices for high performance pads is the brake dust. I've not read any studies on which ones produce less than others, that may be something for you to do a google search on. See if anyone has done independant studies on them.

Well I have my stock steelies and hubcaps so brake dust isn't an issue at all for me. My hubcaps will get dirty from daily driving before brake dust will even be noticeable, so I'd have to say they don't create as much dust as OEM pads.

Also, I've never actually gone out and tested braking distances in the cold, but on the other hand I've never had a problem coming to a stop. Although I don't (because that would just be retarded), at any given point I have the ability to lock the tires, so that's enough braking force for me and my Azenis.

Because...they are a hyped up by most of the people that own them...plain and simple.

True, a Type-R is well performing car...but it's not everything it's made out to be. I mean, it's just a front wheel drive, sub 200 horsepower car. Woop-te-doo.

Thus, I hate Hype-R's
