Shock went through hood...still good to use?
Well I've always heard about it happening but now I've become a statistic
...I was changing my oil today and saw the shock piston out past the usual....so far it made a hole on the bottom side of my hood...at least it didn't go through...question is...if i fix this...is the shock still good to use...or should I just get another one? Thanks!

UPDATE: I took the shock out and this is what I found

This is not a "normal" occurance, did you have you shocks install recently? Sounds like someone forgot a washer. This shocl should be fine, but you need to take the front suspension apart and make sure that the washer that goes on top of the shock but under the bushings is there.
Somebody forgot the load bearing washer that sits under the bottom rubber (and above the bump rubber) and holds everything together at the mount. You would think that the fact that the top nut never really tightened down might have been a clue that something was amiss. They also turned the top washer upside as well. You will probably be fine reinstalling them and I'd thing the car would be better with a functioning damper this time.
Obviously it isn't in place. Who the hell isntalled those? You better make sure all 3 of the other ones have the hardware in place. Thats a total bone head manuver if a shop did that. I would make those ******* buy you a new hood!!!
If you did this yourself, how could you **** it up if you've "Hear of this happening before". This is an installation error. You have monkeys workin' on your car...
Anyways, the shock will be fine, but your gonna need some good OEM hardware to replace the missing/damaged bushing seat...
Also looks like your UCAs are hitting your shock tower...
