Rattling noise coming from underneath the car..
Did a search.. none of the topics i found matched what i was looking for.. or at least i don't think they did..
anyways the problem is that after my 2nd track day (bout a year ago) i started hearing some rattling sound coming from underneath the car.. i neglected it obviously for quite some time. Now it's just gotten louder and I had to figure out a way to get rid of it..
The sound seems to come from between the cat converter and the headers.. at first i thought it might have been the heat shield but i took it off and the sound was still there.. was going to try taking off the cat converter but my friend said there's not really much point considering there's no way something could get in there. I heard something about the headers having a rattling problem on a 4th gen lude but since mine's a 5th gen (01 sh) i figured that might not be a problem
I came across a post that said listing mods might help so here goes..
-AEM CAI
-DC Sports 4-2-1 headers
-MSD Ignition
-AEM Pulleys
-HKS Hyper muffler
-brake upgrades but that shouldn't make a diff
Please help or if u find a topic that fits my problem.. please direct me to it..
Btw i think it might be possible that a bolt that i dropped in the engine bay might have caused it but the rattling started way before that.

Check very carefully the welding on your headers mounting bracket, they are prone to breaking on DC headers and will cause the noise your experiencing.
DC's are known to break and rattle.
It just may be your cat though. I used to have a VW golf that went through 2 catalytic converters. From my understanding when a cat goes bad it breaks down and there are chunks of it bouncing around in there. If it breaks down enough you shoot it out the tailpipe, or plug up your tail pipe if it gets stuck part way down.
Also check the heatshield underneath, things like that to make sure they're not rubbing.

word. my cat just went out about a week or so ago. i still haven't taken it off yet, but it's def. the cause of this rattling noise i'm having, too. you might want to check the brackets on those dc headers, though. like these guys said, they break pretty easily.

ah it just might be the headers then.. they've actually been scraped up pretty badly too.. to the point where it's flat and almost a hole.. lol
thanks a lot for the info
