Default New Guy Here...Questions

What up people,

As of 3/10/05, I am the proud new owner of a '00 Tafetta white GSR coupe. The first thing that comes to mind as far as mods go is handling capabilies, so I ordered a set of Eibach pro-kit springs and KYB AGX adjustable shocks. I have yet to install those. Currently, the car has ground control coils on stock struts (drives like absolute crap and is very loud and annoying). I have a couple questions to shoot at ya:

1: Does anyone have any feedback on Carbing and Password JDM suspension parts (particularily chassis braces)? And what can I do to eleminate bump steer and wheel hop?

2: There is a high pitched whistling noise that occurs whenever I step into the throttle. I'm currently running an Injen short ram intake and I'm unaware of any further mods...I previously owned four mustangs and the noise is familiar from my last stang which had a 70mm BBK throttle body that made almost the exact noise when accelerating. Not sure whether anybody knows what I'm talking about but any feedback would be appreciated. Also, it seems as though I'm getting crappy fuel mileage (which leads me to believe that there may be aftermarket injectors, a new fuel pump and or upped fuel pressure). Either way the car runs very strong for stock.

3: I also have issues with my third gear synchro. The car is still under extended warranty and should be covered (i'll find out by next week). If it is not covered, I'm seriously considering an ITR tranny conversion or rebuilding my GSR tranny with all the goodies (LSD and ITR final drive). What do you think is the wisest decision there?? Is $1650 a good prive on an OEM ITR Tranny new from the factory? And/or does anybody know where to get a used one?

That's good enough for now...I appreciate any feedback and look forward to posting up at honda-tech when time allows.

-Jon

Ground Control Coilovers are usually pretty good (especially for Integras). Just get some shocks and you'll be straight.
I actually don't know about those parts from PasswordJDM, but I'm guessing they may be all right.
About the noise...Have you looked at the injectors? Usually you can tell if they're aftermarket. That high pitched whining noise may be air escaping somewhere (a hole in something) or it could be the sound of a belt.
That seems like a decent price (especially from the factory) for the ITR tranny.
Congratulations on your new car.

actually that high pitched noise is your intake.....I also had this...kinda annoying but thats what comes with the short rams..
You could just be running rich and need a good tune...
also, sounds like you have quite a bit of money...I would cancle the order on those shocks and springs, sell your GC coils for 200 bucks and buy a TEIN SS or TEIN FLEX coilover system<---the real deal if your into autoX...
Get a 32mm sway bar, traction bars, good strut bars, cornering tires i.e.Azenis, and you'll be fully set for autoX have fun!

Thanks for the response guys. Here are the links to the strut braces and sway bars i'm interested in. Let me know what you think:

http://www.passwordjdm.com/pro...y=cat

http://www.rcdevelopments.com/....html

They both look like high quality parts...however, as much as I do love autocross, this car will remain a street machine. I plan on buying a 94 LS for the track. Do you think these particular parts may be too agressive for the street and too rigid/uncomfortable?

If you're not planning on using your car at the track I don't see the point in spending money on a new tranny.
Just replace the fluid with some GM Synchromesh, and see if that resolves the problem.

I mean...I have plans to boost the car, but it will remain a street machine. Which tranny set up is ideal? Built GSR or ITR replacement. Also, besides LSD and final drive what is the difference between the GSR and ITR trannies?

Congrats on the new car... you'll love her. and just like a woman she'll get snatched if she's attractive so keep an eye out on her.

1. good parts... your always gonna have some kinda bump steer. as for wheel hop, maybe lsd, but i wouldn't kno for suspension.

2. throttle body makes that noise when she's at a certain angle. mainly also around 3k rpm. usually louder w/ SRI.

3. honda third gear syncros a notorious for grinding. i would suggest changing the fluid. you don't need to get a new tranny unless you really want to i guess.
