Installed new dizzy....is my timing off?
Link to my orginal problems: http://www.tamparacing.com/for...18491
Me and a friend got my new dizzy wired in today and installed. Started up on the first turn. I was so ******* nervous it's insane. Question...I moved the cam ever so slightly when I installed the dizzy, would this have thrown off the timing? I installed the top screw dead center in the slot. I drove it around the block and something just felt off. When I got back I popped the hood and looked around and I noticed that the motor seemed really hot..especially given tonights temperature and a 5 minute test drive. I'm guessing the timing might be slightly off causing it to run a little hot maybe...I dont know.
I read in my Haynes manual how to adjust the timing but it doesn't quite make sense. I'm supposed to look @ some mark on the one of the belts and match it up with a timing gun or some **** like that? It's pretty confusing. It will probably make more sense when I actually do it.
But regardless, it runs. Thank God.

u can check ur timing by pulling ur timing belt casings off and turn the crank pully with a ratchet and a socket until u see the arrow on the cam gear facing up and also on the cam gear there will be 2 little marks on each side make sure u look close because some of them are hard to see, once u see those they should be lined up about flat with the top of ur head and at the bottom of the motor pull the crank pully off once u do that u will see the key, this is what stops the pully from spinning anyway that key should line up with a little arrow on the block right behind ur other pullys, if ur botttom and top are at the same place then ur timming is perfect the only thing u can do to advance is to take ur dizzy and turn it counter clockwise to advance ur timming.
yeah, timing lights do help....
if you installed the dizzy the same way you pulled the first one off, then you'll be all set. the intake cam will only fit on one way.
other than that, if the top mount bolt is in the middle (you can turn them to adjust the timing), it will be at 16 ( 0 +-).
basically just make sure it was put on the same as the other was before it was taken off.
