NEED HELP, CAR WONT REV PAST 5
i have a jdm gsr motor, all i did today was change the gasket on the IACV then i added some coolant cause i spilled some, then i let the car run for about 10 minutes, i did this cause my check engine light keeps saying its the IACV i'm currently broke so i decided maybe it'll work if i clean it up a bit, it worked fine until i did my head swap from a gsr to a b16 with blox manifold, then it cam on, well it didnt work, but heres the wierd part, when driving the car will cutoff betwwen 4 and 6 like someitmes it will cutoff at 4500 and other times it'll cut off a 6000, but when the car is not in gear i can rev it all the way to redline, but when im driving it cuts off, it feels like the fuel is cutting off early, i just rebuilt my dizzy and the car was running fine 30 miutes before i did this, i even hit vtec a couple of times before i got home to mess with ICAV. can someone help me out?
its a gsr tb that i got bored out, i readjusted it to withing factory specs so im sure this isnt the problem, like i said, my car was running fine until i took the ICAV out and put it back on, i spilled some coolant from the hose that connects under the ICAV but i then added some more to compensate as well as let the engine run....

are u running a gsr ecu with the b16 head?
are u running a gsr ecu with the b16 head?
yes i am, but this shouldnt be a problem should it?, i need a chipped ecu, but this one works fine for now until i get my new one, but whats keepin me from revving it all the way to redline like normal, whats wierd is that when im not in gear i can rev it to redline

You can run the GSR ECU No problem.
The power will not be optimal but it will run with no issues. However try another ECU solely for the purpose of trouble shooting. If it rev's fine with another ECU you know the drill.
Also Check to see if the IACV is wired correctly. You could have the plugs switched since it's throwing a code. Primarily the plugs of interest are the ones with the same two pin set-up. IAB and IACV and IAT Check the wire colors against a helms/haynes/or friend's car.
If the car revs fine in nuetral it's an issue of load being applied or an issue of the IACV reaching normal operating temperatures and not sending the correct signal while being compared against the other parameteres in the ECU's tables. When this happens the incorrect parameters are getting back to the ECU putting the ECU in Limp Mode.
My guess is that when you pulled the GSR Head to complete the b16a Head swap you mixed up some plugs. The IAB should be left un-plugged because the IAB Box should've came off with the GSR Mani.
Now on GSR Manifolds the IAT is located on the back of the manifold closer to the Passengers side. On the B16a Mani it's on the front on one of the runners. The IAB plug should be left unplugged now leaving you with only one GSR related two prong plug left the IACV.
Also, you mentioned a distributor rebuild. This could be of concern as well.

finally some decent info, a freind of mine mentioned this to me today, i'll be checking as soon as it stops raining, thanks
all wires were hooked up correctly, whats weird is that now the car wont go past 2500 whether its in gear or not, could the ICAV have something to do with this, when i took it to clean it i degreased from the inside out and let it dry and when i put it back on is when i strated getting problems, i just rebuilt the dizzy with a new igniter coil and new cap and rotor, newwires andplugs as well, whatthe **** could be doing this, its like i have a 2500 rev limit, its fucked up telling you, fucked up
used a different ecu and it still does it, i know its not my dizzy because i just rebuilt it, anyways i think its the IACV valve thats doing it cause thats the code that the ecu is throwing me, anyone else have any suggestions
BumpinVTEC: Were you able to figure out your problem?
I am having a similar problem - can't rev past 5 after changing out fuel rail and injectors with high proformance ones. Do you have any ideas what might be causing that?
Anyone?
Thanks.

my mechanic told me its my IACV so i ordered a used one, just waiting for it to come in and see if it fixes my problem
sometimes when u cant rev past 2500 theres a short somewhere in the wiring harness.. thats wut happended to me.. make sure theres no bare wires laying out thats touching metal r something..... this happended to me twice and both times it was wire problem.. good luck
i'll look into this wiring problem, when i took out my old iacv i forgot to plug off the coolant lines and coolant got everywhere, maybe it got some wiring?
