Today at the Track (56K Beware)
Today was my first seat time of the new year at a track I had never driven before. I spent about 4 hours this morning at Second Creek Raceway with some friends. The track is short and fairly tight and technical - perfect for the R. I found a huge smile on my face as I learned the track and became familiar with the line at what the car was doing. What an amazing machine the R is - it took everything I could throw at it today and begged for more.
I have to say that I feel my suspension is just where I like it right now. The car is very neutral, does not understeer and rotates nicely when asked. The only issue of the day was my gearing - I was running out of 3rd gear before the braking zones for some tight corners but not far enough away to shift really. As I became faster throughout the morning it became a bigger issue as my exit speeds and speed downs the straights increased.
I ended up burning about 1/2 qt. of oil - I'm using the German Castrol and my exhaust kept wanting to come out of the rear hangers. Time for new ones I think.
It was a perfect day.

These guys were so cool. They are preparing this Audi for the Pikes Peak hillclimb and were out working out some transmission and boost niggles. They started the day running 5lbs of boost and later went up to 22lbs of boost. They said they were super impressed with quickness of the ITR out on the track.

(my apologies for the largish photos, but they are better this way
)

Thanks for all the compliments guys. I'm still smiling from today - it felt so good to be out there again after a move, a new job, a new house (and all that hassle) and a long winter...
