Default Tranny hard to shift into gear

Up until today, this has only RARELY happened and only on first gear. Today it happened on pretty much every gear. I was making the trip from essex back to rockville and it would be rediculously hard to get into gear, sometimes even impossible. I did about 30 2nd gear starts on the way back. Somewhere along the way I found out that it's somewhat easier to get into gear if I tap the throttle a bit, but usually that would make it grind like hell and then sometimes get into gear. Then finally, about 5 minutes from home, everything turned back to completely normal.

Only thing i can think of is replacing tranny fluid, as its been about 6 months since I last changed it. Anybody have any suggestions?

check clutch fluid level

If the problem is inconsistant, it probably could stand to be bled.

the clutch fluid is a closed system. There should be ANY consuption of fluid; no evaporation, it doesn't burn off, doesn't get consumed... if you ever have to fill it, its because its leaking. Fill it once a year, that could be OK I guess... but if it leaks out, then air is drawn back in, and then you have a problem.

edit: you can just cut & paste this into your sig, makes it easier

- Clutch fixed (thanks to Greyout ) lol jk

Now that my car cooled down completely (and i took a nap...) it shifted perfectly. In fact, it no longer felt like it was grinding every time i went into fifth. Clutch fluid level checked out ok. Maybe it had something to do with using generic MTF during the last change?

sounds like your clutch was not fully dis-engaging. I would work on that instead of tranny fluid.
