Prelude p13 ECU question
I have an h22a engine and ECU only thing is it was running an auto transmission ands of course I want to run it manual transmission. Can the auto ECU be modified to run manual? Or does it make no odds? i.e. same ECU for manual or auto? The ECU is a P13
Many thanks

it can, but you need to have experience soldering on a circuit board. I would recommend buying a new ecu. What year is the motor/car? I have a jdm obd2 p13 at home i don't need. It's manual transmission for 97+ cars. $75 + shipping if you or anyone else who sees this wants it.
I'm guessing he has a fourth gen hence h22a....but yeah, just buy a new ecu...if you want to boost later on, buy a p28 and a hondata ...but thats too much info i guess....get one off ebay maybe, but you take a chance......300 max for an ecu
make sure its OBDI for 4th gen and OBDII for 5th gen...<---IMPORTANT

not necessarily if he has a 1996 4th gen, it's going to be OBDII also.

mgags7, why did you get rid of your ECU after a week? I take it you were running a manual transmission setup?
How does the ECU differ from auto to manual?
Im from the Uk and theres not many people who modify honda ECU's out here, I have socketed a PP5 ECU however, is it something I could do myself? If so are there any links/threads to help me out?
Thanks in advance

Im still confused on this, some people say i'll be fine with an auto P13 ECU others say it needs modifying or I need a manual one. Can someone please clear this up for me? I dont want to spend money if its not nessacary.
Thanks in advance

auto ecu's will supposedly throw a cel when used in a manual and throw the car into limp mode. I say supposedly because I've never tried it, I've only heard. Some people say it works fine. To modify the ecu, you need to remove and add resistors to certain places on the board. Search for it, I know its been covered on this site before. If you are not comfortable with a soldering iron, get a new ecu. Should run you anywhere from $100 - $200 for one. I got mine for $125 (OBD1 P13 MT). You can also buy a chipped p28 for about the same cost. You might as well give it a shot on your auto ecu though. I know the car will run, so you can still get from point a to point b even if you through a cel. Who knows, maybe you'll be one of the lucky ones, and it'll just work.
Thanks in advance

yes the jdm auto ecu can be moddified to run with the h22 and a manual tranny. go to http://www.pgmfi.org and read in the library under the ecu hardware moddifications. they tell you how to modify the ecu. it will require opening the cu up and desoldering or soldering a couple of things.. but i forget exactly.
but the final answer is yes it can be done
Many thanks

i got rid of the ecu because i owned a manual one, i was just using an extra auto one until i straightened out a few wiring kinks, the auto one costs a lot less to replace....
if you socketed an ecu you can probably do the auto to manual mod, just check pgmfi like he said ^^ .... it wont be too tough....

Me too. But that AT had funky idling which I personally didn't like. Oh, also KS and ELD was the issue
But no CEL's concerning tranny type.

Hmmm, mine actually idled better with the J-AT...

Lots of people are suggesting P28 ECUs, but that's not the best way to go with an H22A. A P72 costs a little more, but it will run you IAB properly, and will also make use of your knock sensor. You can tune it with Hondata, or use Crome.
