yes you can, but it will not run the way it should had you used the manual ecu.

You can but it wont run 100%. It will feel a little sluggish. Its best to just get a manual ecu.

?? I ran my ecu unconverted for like 3 days... just had a check engine light and felt sluggish... Then I converted it and no check engine light.. I didn't feel any difference between my converted auto ecu and a manual ecu. When the check engine light was on (unconverted) it did run sliggish though.. I have 2 ecu's now. A converted auto ecu and a manual ecu.. my friend just gave me his old manual p06... Just wondering though.. does the ecu HAVE to be grounded? I've heard that from 2 people already. I just have it plugged in and tugged behind the carpet...

the ecu gets zero electrical connections from the mounting location. Everything is done though the harness.
the only issue that might arise is if something in the ECU is connected incorrectly and is touching the case, which may cause static problems. Then agian if it's connected like that inside the ECU, mounting it correctly will short what ever it is to ground and pop it... so I'm back to my original statement. it doesn't matter.
