What is your guys opinion. Should I buy a car with a swap in it already, or should I buy a cx or vx and do my own swap. I am looking into putting a b18c1 or b18c5 in it. Please help me out.

buy a car and then swap (most likely more expensive this way, but you learn so much!)

buy a swapped car and you won't know what the owner did to it.

my buddy used to work for a shop that did this kind of stuff, so he and I. if not, there is a really good shop where I live called Raver and I will have them do it.
How much do you think the engine and tranny will cost. ive found a few places that were 4500 for the b18c5 and like 4200 i think for the b18c1.

I would buy a car that's already swapped... just make sure you do a very complete inspection of the engine!

It would be much cheaper that way because swapping an engine never increases the value of the car as much as the engine costs...

Let someone else dump money into a swap, then buy it from them for cheap!

 

def do your own swap. then you know how to work on the car. also, if you buy someone's swapped car, you have no idea how hard they rode the motor. you could be buying a ragged out piece of shi*, thinking it'll be quick.

 

sorry i check my sources and its $3500 for a b18c1 with 230 hp at ft lb of torque. and its $4500 for the b18c5 with 185 hp at 118 ft lb of torque.

which one would you guys recomend? to me it seems like I should go for the b18c1!

you should check out h22 too. tougher install, but more bang for the buck. not as good for turbo though

 

I would buy a Car that is already swap if I didn't have a car and if I want a Civic/Del Sol with a B or K series.

You save lots of $$$$.

1. Buy a car for around 2K-5K depends on condition.

2. Buy a motor around 2K-4K depends on condition and what you want B16,
B18, K series etc.....


or


1. Buy a swap car for around $3-6K depends condition and what engine it has.


Just be sure to check if everything working fine and engine is healthy.

It's up to you, good luck.

 

Or.....

You could buy a swapped car for 2-4k...

Pull the engine out and sell it for 2-4k (depending on engine)

Buy another engine and swap it in yourself... that way you can swap in the engine yourself and know it was done right but not have to spend so much money...

Might be more of a pain that it's worth though....

 

will an h22 be a lot faster or what. thats what my buddy has. why are they so much cheaper. are they bar legal?

 

they are cheaper because demand is lower. more torque than a b, and a harder swap. I have one in my del sol. I'm running very low 14's at the moment with almost corded tires. If i could get any traction, it would be 13's easy. that's in a 2400 lb car. stock for stock an h will outrun a b in a straight line. B's take turbos better though. I guess it depends on your plans for this car. Search and you'll find about a thousand H vs B threads.

integra type r has more tq than that...maybe you are thinking of the b16b

 

I actually copied that straight from http://www.inlinefour.com. I am new to the whole import scene. (i am a into trucks) So everything i know is from people that I hang out with that are into street racing and such.

 

buy a car then swap! or buy, run car, build motor on the side , put motor, and be happy...

 

Search for dyno graphs for each engine code, and you'll get a good idea of what each one does. The basics are:

DOHC VTEC Engines
B16 -- Civic si motor (or Civic Type R motor)
B18C1 -- Integra GSR motor
B18C5 -- Integra type R
H22A -- Prelude Engine
K20 -- RSX --&gt; actually I-Vtec, and a superior motor at a superior price

You might also search for LS-Vtec conversion. That's taking to non-vtec version of the B18 and putting a vtec head on it. It's a little more involved, but yeilds the best torque for a B series motor, and the LS engines are cheaper. (B18b)

Buying a car that ha a swap already ??!! whats the point... you have no idea what was done to the car and you know absolutely nothing about it.. I personaly would rather do the swap myself , like said above u learn alot and its better in the long run.

yea... since when did a gsr have have 230hp and a type r have 185hp??? lol.. holy ****... ****** gsr has 50 more hp than a type r!!!! haha.. nah jk... yea.. the info above is correct... the jdm b18c5 has a lil more hp due to slightly higher compression i believe.. 11.1:1 i think?? correct me if i'm wrong
