I remember seeing a DOHC vtec cover that looked almost grey/silver in color (not chrome)- possibly unpainted (the particular one I remember was on a JDM SiR engine I think) - did it come stock on a motor (if so which one), I would like to get one

some people have anodized their valve covers certain colors, ive seen red, blue and gunmetal (gunmetal is what youa re talking about most likely) i dont think anyone sells these though

i had a grey one on my car... i polished it now... not sure if that was the one u were talking about... it was on a silver ek with a turbo gsr motor in it
just take aircraft remover paint stripper and go at it on the valve cover..
its strips the black paint off... and leaves it smooth and grey..
hope that helps

my friend just polished his looks nice. removed the original wrinkle paint with stripper than ...well he didnt even do anything after that but still looks good.
I have done plenty valve covers to a show like chrome shine.
DO NOT USE A DREMAL (only in cracks) OR COARSE GRIT SANDPAPER<<<<
-Make sure you have no gaskets attached (stripper will eat through it)
-strip the cover
-start wet sanding the cover with 220 working your way up with 320, 400, 600 then ultimately 1000 grit.
-by the time you hit a 1000 grit you will see the shine to show
-now you are ready>>> if you have a local LOWES or home depot they have a aluminum and all surface metal polish in the shape of a chalk stick but only fatter. You will also need a buffer wheel to attach to a bench grinder (this will bring to a chrome look a like)
Parts needed:
chalk polish
bench grinder
Dremal (for small cracks)
buffer wheel
sand paper
TIME
Mind you this you have to take the cover off, I would recommend putting a spare one on if you have one since this is time consuming.
Good luck
