Ok i chopped off my old collector and im wanting to make it an 2.5'' collector. I got my 2.5'' pipe and i put it up to the merge on my downpipe and it is considerably bigger then the merge hole. How should I put the collector on?

Considering the old collector is 2'' and now I want to put a 2.5'' collector on it, the hole is way too small for my new collector and the pipe kinda slides over the hole. Am I suppose to make an adapter piece or just slip fit it and weld?
