is my tranny bad or is it my linkage?
Ok well 3 days ago i let my buddy drive the car when i wasnt with him. then later that night i am driving to work everything was fine with the car. then it wont go into 1st 3rd or 5th gear.
I worked overnight that night from 7pm-6am (sucks i know) I come out fire the car up and it runs fine and has been for 3 days untill tonight.
maybe im just imagioning it but something felt like it was wrong with the linkage like it was loose or something. so today i jacked it up and the bolt at the bottom of the shifter was loose. so i tightened it. car was still shifting fine. then as im driving it tonight it gets hard to put into 4th gear but it will still go in. later it wont go into 1st or 3rd and when it feels like its in it starts makeing a grinding noise when i let out the clutch. then it feels like the shift gate moves to the right because i cant get it into 4th 5th or reverse. but goes right into 1st, 2nd and 3rd. and instead of netural going from left to right it is like diagional and feels shity.
also when i try to put it in 4th it goes into second. Im ******* pissed I had a d16a6 with 40,000 miles on it and it ran perfect and i swaped in this b16 and now its giving me problems. I rebuilt the tranny before i put it in the car.
im just wondering if it sounds like the linkage (which looked fine to me when i was under the car) or if its something inside the tranny.
the shaft sticking out of the bottom of the tranny looked like it was at an angle im not sure if its supossed to be like that.
sorry if some of that didnt make any sence im tired and pissed.
any help would be appericated.

sounds like the clutch going in and out, if it was ur tranny it do it all the time, and if it was the linkage it would also do it all the time
check the clutch cable also, if thats not it, i think ur clutch is on its way out

I know for sure that shift fork rod, that the change rod attaches to should not be angled. It should be straight out, and pretty solid, if it has free play then somehting is wrong inside the trans. How many miles are on the trans now after your "re-build?"

well i shouldnt have called it a rebuild. Its a s1 tranny and i put a y1 gearset in it and swaped the gears onto the s1 final drive. i bought the y1 gears used so im not sure how many miles are on them.
Is there any way to buy a rebuild kit for this tranny.?
I would rather built it with new bearings and sycnros and not have to wory about it.

im gussing that maybe one of the bolts came loose inside the tranny and now the shift forks are jammed up. when the car is in gear it drives fine.
ok i got some pictures to show you whats wrong. im wondering what caused this and what I should be looking inside the tranny when i take it apart. my gave plan it to try to get that "shifter shaft" if you will to be straight agan and then test to make sure it goes into each gear.

Not sure exactly what you've tried, but here's my go...
If you take a screwdriver, and put it in the shifter linkage hole (on the tranny) can you manually shift it through all the gears?
How does the stabilizer bar look? The one side bolted up under the floor of your car, right below the shifter? Do you have an aftermarket short shift kit on the car?
Does the tranny make any noises while you are driving it, like grinding or whining noises when you let off the gas?
Unfortunately judging by the pics, the linkage looks like its crooked coming out of the tranny. You might be right in your assumption that something came loose.
Hard to tell, ive never really seen that problem before...

thats exactly what i tried. it wont go through the gears with the linkage disconnected. its the same as when its hooked up. im gona tear it out and have a look at the insides tomorrow night. i have an extra ls tranny if things gont go well.

Sounds like you have it under control then. Keep us posted.

pulled motor last night (only took me 1hour and 50 min I hate taking out just the tranny) upon cracking the tranny open i found the bolts that hold the shift mechanism in place one was holding it in about half of the way out and the other 2 bolts were laying in the tranny.

I am really lucky that i didnt damage the tranny by my negligence to tighten these bolts down. I drove the car for a month sence i rebuilt the tranny. If one of these bolts were to get stirred up into one of those gears bye bye trans.
I put new bolts in and tightened and the tranny shifts like its old self agan!

Damn you are one lucky man...
Lose bolts in tranny = disaster waiting to happen...
Glad you got it figured out! Sucks you had to pull the engine though, that's always a pain...
