What are the best power upgrades for a B18C5
Hi everybody "newbie here"
Well I have a 99Si and I am putting a brand new B18C5 motor, tranny (etc) any way I have already purchaced the comtech intake and icebox. I was wondering what is the best header US spec that is not the 2.5 JDM goodies for the motor and exaust? I have a greddy SP and was thinking of either Apexi N1 or tanabe RM for better flow.
I would greatly apreciate any feedback you ITR guys could give me
Thanks
Chris

I'm still wondering what was wrong with the B16. What's the point of spending 3 grand or so on a new motor if you already have a pretty good one that came with your car? I would have invested the money else where, like modifications for the B16. A lot of people doubt that motor, but IMO is a good motor.
What are you planning to do with the car? The engine is pretty powerful already, i'd recommend waiting for a little while, getting used to things, and deciding what you need as seasoning after you've tasted the soup. Also, some mods can loose power on a B18C5 (indeed, on any engine), you need to attack things comprehensively. If your autocrossing for example, you don't wanna loose low-end.. Before you get more power for the sake of having more power, decide what you're doing with the car. If the answer is "street racing" we're all going to yell at you
Drag racing isn't a very good answer either in this forum.

Well I am building a G machine in other words I want a car that can pull 1 lateral G I have the Progress coilovers and rear swaybar. I am doing the swap because not only do I like to drive road coarse and apex local streets in my town but I love to go to the track and dragg race with my friends who are ET crazy. And the other reason for the swap is that I wanted a ITR but could not afford the insurance and the car itself So I am making my own creation. Also the cop' me up one time for mods to my SI and sent me to the REF and they had a feild day with my car and I was forced to take off all mods exept my exaust so I need to get a motor that has ***** from the get go. Not to say a B16 is bad but on a 2600 pound car it's low tourque is killing me.
So what header should I get? I was leaning towards the JG one. what exaust my greddy or upgrade to something more strait threw?
Thanks for the Fast and the Furious welcome
hope to get some feedback thanks to those who help

when you say best power upgrades, youre talking about basic boltons? There are lots of things to get you good power, some aggressive cams or you can go the FI route. Headers, search for the great header test.
I have alredy have seen the "great header test" but I am not looking for 2.5" exaust right now till I get some JUN 3's I was thinking of the JG header because of the optional B pipe I could run at the track for extra power and not have any legality issues when I put the regular b pipe on. IF I did not have the visual BS test in CA I would get the TODA or SMS header in a heart beat but the MAN has me down from my previous incounter.
Thanks for the Fast and the Furious welcome

Welcome to HT
Seriously though Everyone has an opinion here, Your best bet is to search through the site (Search function is at the top eight of the page) What you should do or what is best decides on many factors, What you do with the car? What you expect from it? How involved you want to get (Both Time and Money)? and so on.
Whats up Chris!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! didn't think you were on here.. Well anyways welcome to the board.. Most people here are very helpful, so you can count on them. ok talk to you later.

Guys, he doesnt have the Si motor anymore so whats the use talking about it. Lets try to help him with his new motor.
The 2.5" headers will give you the best results, if I were you I would seriously reconsider not wanting the 2.5" headers.
I personally have had excellent results from Mugen stuff (ecu, 4-1 header, exhaust, headgasket ect.) and the quality is second to none.

Search the ITR forum for reviews on ITR after market parts. We already did a Header test for the ITR and now Mike from IPS-Racing is going to do a Intake test and find out which is the best after all. By the way, how is that test going Mike?
Just buy a B18C block - GS-R would be best. The GS-R block with your B16 head = good compression.
You can get a GS-R short block for about $700 or so. Or just get the R short block from the engine you're looking at.
That's what I'd do ........

What wrong with him want to put the B18C5 into his Si? A Si with a B18C5 would always be faster than a Si with B16A if both engine are stock.
As for USDM header, I would say the Comptech one is really good. And for better flow exhaust, all the N1 style exhaust will give you better flow than the Greddy SP that you have now. Just go for whatever you like the most.

Apex local streets? I'm surprised no one else has commented on this.
