Default Finding Machine Shops

hey everyone, just got a quick question. I know some of you are going to laugh but how would you consider a shop a machine shop? Because I'm going to change the head gasket tonight and want to get the head machined even. Im in the san francisco area... it that helps. Lastly, how long does it usually take and do I just bring the head to them? thanks for the input.

a machine shop is where they work on the heads or the engine of the car, like doing the work on the head or bottom end or anything having to do with the engine block. it shouldnt' take too long for them to do something like that if their not busy i would say around an hour, and all you have to do is bring the head to them.

i could be wrong on some parts, but i do know for sure that you just bring the head to them and theyll do it.

Try a Napa store. Sometimes they have a machine shop. Something as simple as decking the head shouldn't be too tough for them to handle.

Check the Yellow Pages. Look for places that do "Cylinder Head Resurfacing." Most shops advertise that. The time it takes is just like what hotaccord said, it depends on how busy they are. The shop I work at every now and then tries to get it back within a day even if we are very busy.

just look in the yellow pages for machine shop. I had the exact same thing done to mine, cost me $45 and took 2 - 3 days, although that was because they were a little backed up.
