Default Thinking of buying a prelude...need help

I saw a prelude for sale. It was originally a 1993 and now has a H22a4. The guy said it had a obd I conversion to obd II.

I see alot of people doing the conversion from II to I and wanted to know what the major advantage was? Is it an emissions thing or is there more to it?

NEXT QUESTION IS THIS: when buying parts for the car would you buy for the gen 4 or gen 5 prelude??

Dude - no one does an obd I to OBD II......SO pretty much, he's trying to strip you. I'm no expert so i really can't tell you why...i just know that its just not compatible - but if he said OBD II to OBD I...then i say its a steal....hopefully someone else will elaborate on this...

Dont know why someone would convert an OBD1 to and OBD2 thats just stupid. OBD1 have much more tuning options, and less emmisions tests.

But, Since it has an H22a4, he must have used a 5th gen ecu with it, which will only work with OBD2

I realize that the original 93 engine would be the obd I and the newer H22a4 would be the obd II....
but why switch to the obdII and not the I??

Typically, everything (I THINK) should work...the H series motors are pretty much the same - with few differences....Depends on what you want to buy - if you have an H22a4 engine in a 4th gen chasis, - you can purchase everything the same, but your internals may be different. Also, you'd want to get turbo piping from a 4th gen site....<--This isn't engraved in stone - this is just my opinion - don't take my word for it. I think its right though. Someone else will post more...

the engine is probably a 5th gen h22a4 from a 97-01 prelude. inorder for it to work it would need obd2 ecu to controll the injectors correctly, being how they are obd2 injectors and are saturated without a resistor box like obd1 ecu require.

i think for injectors it dosent even matter. as long as u just go with one. either peak and hold all teh way thru with resister box and obdII or go saturated and obdI. hondata does not work with obdII tho. which is why people go to obdI

do you really think that people who go from obdII to OBDI seriously swap their injectors.

you only need the OBDII to OBDI harness and the OBDI ECU.

it runs right? then its ok for now.

find out what injectors he has in it. find out if he is running a resistor box. find out what ecu he is using.

you shouldnt run the obd1 injectors without the resistor box. and you shouldnt run the obd2 with the resistor box.

you have to find out if he is running an obd2 ecu. which I am higly doubtful because you cant run the 97 prelude ecu because of the immobilizer.

so what you have to find out is did he really switch to obd2 or did he just put an obd2 engine in the car? which is probably what he did.
