Default comptech air intake plus icebox, or just icebox and standard intake...

Heyguys,

I have been reading all the aem and comptech posts, and am now
wondering what is better, I have a stock 00' type-r, should i go the whole way
and get the comptech intake and the icebox, or just the icebox with the standard intake ?? a few people have stated that the intake pipe being polished metal heats up a lot and doesnt make much difference, or am i mis-reading that.....

what about the comptech air filter itself, is it much better than the standard air filter ?? would it make much difference putting the comptech airfilter in the standard sotck airbox ???

Anyone is Australia (Sydney) know how much for these ??

cheers guys

I would recommend getting just the Icebox. The Comptech intake elbow isn't necessary, and as you already mentioned, might heat up more than the stock elbow. Filter choice is personal preference really...stock will work, as will the Comptech foam filter or K&N drop in filter E-2427. I prefer the 1 million mile warranty and superior filtering capabilities of the K&N...performance differences are negligible.

I'm in Perth, and the cost of personally importing an Icebox and filter the total cost was $920.
$500 for the products (after currency conversion)
$200 for shipping
$220 for import duty and tax

Those are rough values, but hopefully that should be a useful guide for you.

As a side note, the local tuning shop quotes roughly $1000 - $1200 for a custom-made CAI which is basically an Iceman.

Icebox and filter is all you need, the stock rubber has the same internal diameter (pretty sure) as the metal comptech tube, and the throttle body is the bottleneck anyway regardless of tube size. Like i said, i have both, and i'll probably end up selling the metal tube part...it looks nice and probably makes the car sound a little cooler, but it's not really doing anything functional for MY money (YOUR money may vary.)
