anyone else hold there breath?
hahaha, i used to do it, when i first started welding... thought i was the only one.
welding is great for clearing the mind, because it requires so much concentration.
sometimes so much concentration that you forget to breathe i guess..

I find myself doing it once in a while. Mainly because the anti spatter spray smells so bad and comes up under the helmet. A fan pulling the air helps.
Every single time.. I do mostly stick welding and am now doing some mig and have had one attempt at tig but yes I do it too. I'm not sure if it's a really bad habbit but it surely can't be good and I imagine it's worst on a mig, whereas in stick you can only hold it so far till you run out of rod.

when i learned to weld my teacher would come threw all our booths to make sure we were doin everything right. we would get yelled at if he caught us holdin our breath. so fear of humiliation kept me from starting that habbit haha
It took me a long time to tig without holding my breath lol
When i realized i was doing it, it took more concentration to breathe then to weld.
I swear a key to tig welding is relaxation

I thought that was in the tig welding manual like step 2 or something,
1. Lower shield
2. Hold breath
3. Apply pressure to pedal....
so on and so forth.

I think I hold my breath and have my face in some contorted position too. Like biting my lip or my jaw cocked to the side and semi-squinting.

you guys who hold their breath should go to a gun range and shoot with professional advise on posture, breath control.
it is essentially the same type of activity and will help you with those nasty habits.
