What kit are you using? I've been running retrofitted kit from a CL for more than 2 years without a problem.

Heres how I secured the bulb:

H4H vs D2R. Notice the similar mounting depth and diameter.

Notched the bulb at the base and the back:

Secured with coathanger wire to stock mounts:

you have to dremel the base of the hid bulbs. to make it fit. you will need to make a glare sheild as well. the glare will be off the hook if you just place the hid bulbs in there as is.

make sure you make a glare sheild that covers the bottom of the bulb. http://www.hidplanet.com for more on hid applications

please dont just plug in on onepieces, overall output might be bright but garantee youll be blinding on coming traffic. how do i know, cause i first did it that way. ive then decided to install projectors to limit the glare. the fluted lens pretty much distorted my cutoff but overall its 100X better than h4h or when simply just plugging it in....

If you really want the best output, you need to not only put OEM HID projectors into the 1-piece housings, but also sand and polish the flutes off of the lens in front of the projector. Then you will have a nice sharp cutoff and wide beam output that won't be dangerous to oncoming drivers. Yes on backroads the glare can be quite dangerous if uncontrolled, it could cause an oncoming driver to run off the road.
