Default H22 piston choice

Just so you know first i have read and searched this topic many times but i want everyones opinions and to see if anyone has some first hand experiance with either one.

i want to go all motor with my jdm h22 and was wondering if the type-s pistons are worth it or should i spend more money and get aftermarket high compression ones?

i kind of like OEM parts just cause of there reliability, is there any reliabilty or install issues with the type-s pistons other than the rods?

You'll have to sleeve your motor to run CP pistons.

Your best bet is to run the type-s pistons and get the
rods rebushed.

how much is it roughly to get the rods rebushed instead of using the newer prelude rods?

and if you get the rods rebushed does it affect reliability at all?

by the way thanks for the info so far guys i got two opinions, lets get some more

Type-S pistons have no reliability problems except from improper tuning (detonation). Rebushing the rods should not be too expensive. About any engine machine shop woud be able to do it so ask around your area.

If you hold out you might be able to find someone parting out an H22A4 that has the rods that come bushed to size from the factory. Usually really cheap.

type-s pistons are same as the accord euro-r pistons in the euro-r h22a4, at 11:1

I got 200hp at the wheels with just i/h/e and lightened flywheel.

Starting to work on head and also want to bump up compression too.
Don't really want to re-sleeve but guess if I want to get aftermarket pistons i'd probably have to.

alright ...so I am looking into this H22A4 bottom end. If I have no plans on boosting this car, couldn't I stick with 10:6:1 pistons? NOT looking to re-sleeve ro anything, just want a fun/reliable daily driver.

If I go with Type S pistons, I would have to sleeve right?

If I stick with the 10:6:1 pistons, I could just go with rods (crower, or whatever brand) without needing to re-bush them right?

I had .025 over Type S pistons in an H22A1 block. Compression checked it several times always read 215psi plus or minus 5psi each cylinder. Perfect for mild all-motor setup or with a 75-shot of nitrous---I can't stress this more, make sure you tune it. Making a Type S bottom-end is cheap too, fully balanced block with about 11:1 compression for about $1,000 give or take a bit, depending on your area.

using the type - S (.25mm OS) I would need to bore out the cylinders but not have to re-sleeve. I am getting a good deal on an H22A4 block that I am going to bore out and get forged rods. With the type S pistons (and a PROPER tune up) I should get close to 220 NA right? with the right exhaust, headers and a bored out TB...in addition to the skunk2 head I have....

when looking at pistons how can you tell if the pistons are out of a type-s or not. How do i know the difference between a type-s piston and another h22 piston??

What do you mean by 220? at the wheels or flywheel? Type S pistons are not .25mm OS, they are .025 of an inch OS. .025in is a little more than .5mm.

yeah 220 at the wheels

on ebay it said .25 mm, but I thought that seemed kind of large

maybe they meant .025 mm
