Tell me about Dizzy replacement
Hey guys, well I can't figure out if it was the old owner of the car or the dealership but somehow one of the screws that holds the cap to the dizzy is snapped off and not coming out, therefore anytime the humidity is real bad, or its foggy/ moisture in the air, the car either doesn't start or is hard to keep going because its getting wet inside the cap since its the front one facing the front of the car. If I bought a new dizzy, yes yes I can have this drilled, but for 180 bucks from Distributer King, its worth while to just replace a part that may go bad eventually than doing it twice. What am I looking at install wise, do I just pull it off, put the new one on? I know it sets the timing, but I heard its notched to where if you pull it off, and align the other one, its a straight swap?
Thanks in advance. any help always appreciated

Yep, 3 12mm bolts.
If you dont have a timing gun you can make marks
before you remove the dizzy and put the new one in the
same place.
You'll still wan't to recheck it with a timing gun whenyou get a chance.

The only timing mark you would need to look at is the
flywheel one when your setting the timing with a gun.

The flywheel is obviously on the tranny side..are you saying I should be pointing it on that side? I'm over looking on the belt/crank side... I have always timed a car on this side. Maybe you got me confused haha.
If you have an h series the timing marks are on the fly wheel. there is a little black rubber inspection plug right where the tranny and motor meet. theres also a pointer with like a < and a pointer with a - behind it so you know your lined up right when you time it. Its hard to explain anyone have a pic.

I have seen that black little plug a hundred times but never took it off. are the marks on the outside of tranny next to that hole? and I just shoot the light down the hole. and which of these marks am I shooting for? WOW thanks for this bit of info I would have been on the wrong side of the engine throwing stuff lol.

lol.........yes, shoot the gun through the hole he was talking about.
you will see a place to line it up with the mark on the flywheel.
on the right side of the hole you will see 2 prongs (<
sticking out,
behind them you will see one more prong.
you line up the one in the back between the 2 in the front.
just take a look at it and you'll see what I'm talking about.
Then use the white timing mark (it's a horizontal dash) on the flywheel.
Jump you service connector and then start your car.
Set your timing gun to 15%, then adjust the distributor until the
white mark on the flywheel is dead on with the middle prong and
you should be good to go.

damn i love having a 5th gen. Automatic dizzy timing adjustment for me
If that doesnt work you could also put the motor at TDC, then pull the dizzy and put the new one in with the rotor facing the #1 in the firing order. Still gonna need to check the timing afterwards though.

Well I'm going to try and see if my timing currently can lend me some info to where I need to get it once I replace the dizzy. LOL you don't know how confused I would have been trying to get this timed knowing I had to do it off the tranny, I have never came across this. Thanks for the help, I'm sure I will have more questions so subscribe haha
EDIT
What page on the factory manual ? 1400 pages on a cd is hard to flip through, I tried every keyword I could think of.
