Default Pistons 101

So I hear EVERYONE talking about headwork, cams, springs, valves, port/polish, ect...

What about pistons?? Someone please explain what kind of gains you can get with higher compression?? Pro's/Cons? reliability? expense? What other things should i do when i do this?

Someone in another forum told me i could get JE pistons in my H22, and get 12:1 compr, and thats good for about 30-40hp??

I dunno about 12:1 compr, so what about Type S pistons?? thats 11:1 right? what kind of gains might i see from those??

Also, the other issue is fuel, how high can you go on 91?? i cant find 93 in cali....

piston design also plays a huge role in power making. I'd like to hear from the experts some general guidelines and what to look for in a good piston design.

I think that would be knowledge we all could use B series H,F etc.

Good Thread

hey read that post if u havent already they talk alot about different theory's, mainly starting off with rod stroke ratio but get into pistons.

start reading at http://www.theoldone.com/

the rollerwave pistons are the way to go, you safely run a c/r that would normally ruin your engine with 91' octane. get your head done by endyns and you'll experience even more gains from these pistons.

even in a block not prepared by endyn the pistons will work marvelous. check out the theory behind it, it sounds logical, it works like magic!!!

sounds good, but everyone makes their own stuff sound superior. And for the power they claim to make, there are not a whole lot of people running them, BUT thats a different subject altogether.

I've heard good things about all wiseco pistons not just endyne's, and i've also heard great things about CP, I just wanna know why the design of these is superior to say a JE or SRP or Arias. Is it the materials used, clearances you can run, flame travel, detonation resistance..etc.? Juss Curious

principals he uses in piston design is hardly worth mentioning. turburlence and all those other things he fights so much for are common occurances in any mid-high compression motor at 9000-10000rpm

theres alot of piston manufacturers that you HAVENT heared of...

you just made a nice list of pistons that are made in the US. what about pistons that are made in other countries?
