Default Need Advice on possible buy!!

A local dealer has a 99 Si with 94K on it. The car has a aftermarket front bumper and a bad purple paint job. Motor wise, its runs strong, shifts well with a short shifter, and has aaftermarket clutch that is beefy. The motor for the most part seems stock except for the SRI, sure it had headers at some point. It has 14" steelies w/ no hubcaps. When you drive at low speeds, its makes a low volume rubbing noise. I figured it was probably the front brakes rubbing on the steelies. I thought the smallest size you could go with the 99-00 SI's was 15". No signs of it being in a accident, but I figure it probably has been at some point.

I know this makes the car sound bad, but they offered it to me for $5200. Is this worth the risk?? My main concern honestly is with that rubbing noise. I want to believe that its just the front brakes rubbing, since its sounds like a metal on metal kinda thing.......but I fear it could be something worse. Any ideas?? I have rims I can swap on as soon as I get home, but I dunno. It has Misc small **** thats wrong with it, but nothing I can't fix. On one hand, I know that I can get the car, put some effort into it, and have a great deal in the end. On the other hand, I know this could be begging for a world of hurt. I'm not super xposed to 96-00 civic's, so I was hoping I could get some good advice.

Also, if I did get this car. What is the recommended Maintenance at 100K. Other than Timing belt and such. Thanx in advance everybody

Ive only seen 14's on a SI with wheel spacers, or the caliper grinded off a little to fit. Price seems ok. The engine also has alot of miles..and it probably been ran hard, but you cant really tell.

I would think twice. You have the money, look elsewhere.

In all honesty I would steer clear of 99-00 Si's all together. Since I joined h-t back in march of last year, I have seen thread about an EM1 being stolen countless times. It is sad, I'm glad that I didn't get the one I was looking at cause I probably would be walking to school tomorrow if I had.

Look into buying an ex from 96-00 That way you will have some money left over to do routine maintance or any other things that come up. And just start saving for a turbo.

Id be more worried about the paint than anything else... Check to see if the front end still has the vins and the back end too.. If the vins are all there then its probably never been in an accident.. Look right by where the fenders and the headlights are on teh core support and see if the welds look factory.. To me if you rip off all the gay **** and put it back to stock with some nice rims and a clen paint job you'll have found yourself a pretty good deal...
