H22 N/A setup. Crower or Skunk2?
Im lookin at Doing a full Valvetrain upgrade on my h22a4. I already had a fully built head using all Crower Components, but I dont know If I should use them again. The other option is Skunk2. I was talkin to on of my friends and he said that I should piece together my own kit. I however believe that companies like Crower and Skunk2 design their products to work with their own products the best. When Crower developed their Turbo cams, I highly doubt that they had Skunk2 springs and retainers in their R&D head. What size vavles do you think I should get? I was gonna go with .5mm over stock but I dont know what is best. I was also told not to get Titianium retainer because they will crack. What do you guys think I should do. Im partial to a full Crower kit but I would like all of your input. What would be ideal for more HP on a Daily Driven H22 Head?
I say go with the S2StageII camshafts - if you search, many people have better results with the S2S2....Crower is nice, and cheaper way, but you have to choose between

Will I be able to run these and be streetable? I dont want the idle to be all messed up. Without getting technical, What are the differances between the Skunk2 stg2 and the Crower stg2

The Stage IIs are absolutely street workable. You may lose very little torque at the lower end of the power band, but it is definately worth it up high. Go to Nopionline.com - or you can just go to the websites and look at the lift/duration of the cams. Go Skunk2, but ofcourse thats just my opinion. I think you'll definately be satisfied with them. Also, do a search on H-T and you'll find a lot of useful information....
from the dyno's the i have read between the Skunk2 stage 2 and crower stage 2 is that with the skunk2's the rev limiter needed to be raised to get the maximum potential out of them.. With the crower's it seemed like they peaked at redline.
Well whawt about valves? Some say go oversized some say go stock. What do you guys think? Also, where can I buy the whole Skunk2 valvetrain kit for an h22.

IMO it is, but it is also more expensive. I would have gone with Ferrea if I had the extra money at the time.

Do you think titanium retainers are worth it. I was lookin around and to my surprise, a lot of people said that the best retainers that you can get are your stock ones. What are you opinons? Ive narrowed my valvetrain down to either Crower or Ferrea. If I were to go with Ferrea, what kind of valves should I get, Dished or flat faced? Thanx in advance
i've been running Manley 1.0mm oversize valves and they are great. i don't know how they would perform next to a stock size valve, but if you want oversize valves, don't be afraid.
Ti retainers are worth every penny.

nope. actually the Manleys have a stock size valve seat. i think a bit of radiusing would help, but nothing major needs to be done. i've got my head i'll be doing the reverse procedure on soon. Out with the super size, In with the stock size.
Its always said " You get what you pay for"....
Well, IMO, i think the skunk2 springs and retainers are a GO but don't get the valves...go with some other titanium valves. i heard it wasn't wise to go with oversized valves (well, on the SKUNK2 Stage II cams)....thats what it said on the website.
