Default Rpm problem (already searched)

Hey guys
My tach goes up to 2K stays for a bit then comes down to 1K again at idle (back and forth), but when I'm driving sometimes it gets stuck to 2K and it won't go down.
I did look all the grounds, change distributor (including ignitor), change o2 sensor, cleaned the idle control valve, but I still does the same thing. Any ideas?

my car did the same thing before my dist. went out. if you can source a good dist. try it and see if it works before buying one.

I got a rebuild distributor from Autozone. Are they a good source?

i'm sorry. i read right past that. yeah it should be good. it is possible that it isn't because it's a remanned. i've gotten a bad axle and dist. from autozone. both remanned. i had to go back and exchange both and they did'nt give me any trouble. are you getting any codes or have you checked?

more than likely its not the distributor. try cleaning your IACV before spending money on something you don't need.

search IACV or Idle Air Control Valve there are a few write ups right here in this forum.

no codes and I already cleaned the Idle Air control valve, still does the problem
how about the tps and map sensor? Would they cause bad rpm if they go bad??

try screwing the idle adjust screw all the way in. it might be sucking excess air in throught there.

Try and see if your throttle body sticks or try to manually close the throttle plate by hand and see if it stops or your throttle cable is to tight.
