Default clamp on exhaust pipe ??

i recently purchased a 2.5" custom cat-back "slip-on" piping supplied with exhaust clamps . i wanted to save some money and use only the clamps without welding on the pipes . i wanted to know if i went this route, would it be ok ? will the heat from the exhaust seal up the slip-on section of the piping properly ? and if it is ok to use the clamps, how tight should i tighten it ? is there a proper torque spec ? because i dont want to crush/damage the piping .

Crushing the piping is how crush clamps work.

if i were you, i would do what a lot of guys have been doing on here. they weld a tab on both ends of the pipe where they slip together (one on each side of the pipe. total of 4 tabs). then they put a long bolt to hold it together. that way it is stronger and can be easily removed by just taking 2 bolts off
