It must be nice to have a $1000 tire budget. I'm looking at the BFG K/D KDW, Kuhmo MX and maybe a set of Advan Neova. The BFG's and Kuhmos look to be a good valve, with good tread wear and a pretty sticky tire. That is just my .02, I don't know much about tires but am also researching a good tire for the upcoming season.

You really need to take treadlife (tire longevity) into account when comparing tires. For example, the Yokohama AVS ES100 will last 2-3 times as many miles as the Falken Azenis RT-215. So even though the purchase price is the same, the cost per mile of the Yokos is one third to one half of the Falkens, because you'll have to replace the Falkens at least once and maybe twice while driving the number of miles you will get from a single set of ES100.
The Tire Rack recently did a comparison between the ES100, the Fuzion ZRi, and the Avon Tech M500, which all did well and may all be in your price range, depending on size. I don't know how long the other two tires will last, though, since they're new to the market and I haven't heard a lot of reports on their treadlife (since no one has used up a set yet).

If the Azenis don't last someone at least a year then they need to examine their driving habits. Mine have been through 4 track weekends, probably 50 autocross runs, and were daily driven for 10k miles. They still have some life left.
In your price range you'll get the best grip from a Azenis 215. A similar tire to check out is the new Hankook Ventus R-S2, but nobody has really reviewed them yet. You can't go wrong with the ES100 either, but it does not offer the same grip as an Azenis.

That depends on how many miles you drive in a year; however many miles you're talking about, the ES100 will last 2-3 times longer. The Azenis usually last 10-15K miles (a few folks get more than this, a few get less, but the vast majority are in this range) and the ES100s typically last 20-40K miles. So if you drive 10K miles a year, your Azenis will last 12-18 months, and the ES100 will last 24-48 months. If you drive a different amount of miles, well, you can do the math... As I said, the cost per mile of the ES100 will be one third to one half that of the RT-215.

Agreed - on dry pavement. But the ES100 will grip better on wet pavement, and last 2-3 times longer.
Your priorities, your decision, your choice...
