No. You're gonna waste your money. Save it for a Turbo, or a B-Series.

Rod bearing?

If you want to go all motor, while still be daily driven... run about 12:0 compression, get headwork, and run wild cams. Check out http://www.exospeed.com, they have nice D series stuff.

or regrind from web for super cheap and save some money for othershit like a better valvetrain. I'm doing a NA setup on my d15b in my hatch. Don't worry about people telling you to not waste your money. I don't care that I don't have the fastest car on the road or the fastest sohc. I just do it for the love of doing something different and it's a challenge. Also do what fits your budget.

Go turbo you will have way more fun. go junkyard kit or piece together something if you have the money. OR if you need street legal just grab a greddy kit. BEST BANG FOR THE BUCK! Good luck with whatever you decide

People don't value good gearing when it comes to acceleration.

Throw in a 4.7 or 4.9 FD and see how you like it.

y8 all motor can get in the 14s if built right. If that is all you are after just do the all motor. OR becuase you have to rebuild it anyway, you can make it handle boost. Then turbo it later.

I messed with NA D16y8 for a couple of years. I was just about to do a serious NA build, but finally decided to put together a junkyard turbo for it. Best decision I ever made.

IMO a lot of things about the D16 make it a great candidate for turbo. First and foremost, it's *cheap*. Blow a motor and you're looking at maybe $400 to replace if you look around, so reliability isn't as much of a "nail biter" as it is with a more expensive B series motor. Going turbo turned out to be a really fun and satisfying project. Took me about 2 months (and about $800) to complete, and resulted in 2 solid years and 35000 miles of trouble free performance. Then my car was stolen... But even from my cheap little setup, performance blew away the majority of NA B series motors for a tiny fraction of the cost.

Nothing much really. Started with a d16y7. Did a head/tranny/ecu swap from a y8. It helped, but I was less than impressed. The motor needed at least 50 more whp to even be considered kinda "sporty" IMO. Maybe that can be attained through an NA build, but it wouldn't be much fun on the street, and it would be pricey (at least the research i did was). I got nearly 100 more whp with the turbo, and I drove the car to work every day. Then again, my goal was performance on a tight budget. Kudos to anyone who wants to build a NA d16 for something different...

i have a D16y8 right now, its pulls pretty hard. You should build an all motor single cam if you wanna find out how much power you can get out of it. If you just want power and a fast car, get a B-series or H22

Another thing to remember here is weight. The fact of the matter is that you just won't make alot of power with an allmotor D. In fact, you won't do much (if any) better than a bone-stock B-series VTEC motor as far as power. So if you have this thing in a heavy car (like an actual 1996-2000 Civic EX), you're going to have a REALLY, REALLY hard time running even high 14s/low 15s. The only 13 second allmotor SOHC cars I have every heard of are 1988-1991 CRXs and Civics as well as the lighter 1992-1995 counterparts - and gutted to the bone with slicks at that.
