Default Can I change the filter without jacking up the car? (looks hard)

I am across the country at school. I didnt bring jacks or jackstands, so I was curious if it was easy to change the oil wihtout having to jack up the car. I usually jack up the car fist and go through the bottom.

What do you guys think?

unless you're Skeletor, i wouldnt do it. i don't see how you'd fit......you need some space for the oil catch container and you'll need some room to move your elbows, especially for taking off the oil drain plug.

i got idea..Park the driver side of the car on a curb so their is enough room for u to get under. Then go under the car with a catch pan on ur chest. Just hope u dont get oil all over ur face. gl

Are you going to do it in a parking lot? I vote you take it to an oil change express place and pay them $15 to do it for you.

maybe japanese people have really skinny arms and can get it done. i dont. even on the curb. i just take it in to the grease monkey with my own oil (mobil 1) and good filter. they do it for 10 using my stuff. its worth the hassle.

I have all the right tools to do my own but my last oil change I was too lazy to jack it up and all and I was able to get it done with it on the ground, the oil plug was no problem, I used a large tupperware container for the oil(old container), and afterwards moved it to where oil might come out of the oil filter hole, I was able to maneuver my arm/hand down to the right of the intake manifold to the oil filter and with some difficulty remove it, putting the new one on was much easier. BTW I am by no means a small person.

whats wrong with the curb idea. You would have plenty of room to get it then.

I'd say go buy a cheap jack and save yourself the time of trying to do any other way than what you already know

it's not too hard to get it from the top, if you have the type of filter wrench that goes on a ratchet (socket type) and a 3 inch extention. i can get to it in my crx.

personally in that situation I'd just take it to a gas station. Most charge 15-20 bucks for an oil change. If you get your own parts ...and get the shittiest oil it'll still run you 10 bucks for oil and 5 bucks for the filter.
