Default RETHREDING h23 block

hey every1. i installed gauges a few days ago and the guy that did them said he had to rethread the block to metric threading or something. or electric i dunno what he was saying actually. but he was sayin he needed to do it in order to tap into the oil and water temperature for the sending unit on the gauges? why did he do that. and whats the difference. my accelaration feels a bit funny. ??
