Possible Problem with Comptech Flywheel...It's Baffling
I had some tranny issues a while back causing the Acura dealership to replace some gears for me. At the time they did this, I had them install a JDM final drive and Comptech aluminum flywheel. This was paired with my stock ITR pressure plate/clutch at the time. The gear replacement didn't fix the issue so they dropped my tranny again to replace the stock ITR pressure plate/clutch with brand new ones. When they tried to mate my comptech flywheel to the new pressure plate, the pegs on the FW didn't match up with the holes on the PP. So I had them reinstall my stock ITR flywheel and that had no issues matching up with the new pressure plate.
Any ideas what caused this? I've included pics of my comptech flywheel with measurements from peg to peg. The distance between pegs aren't identical and I'm not sure if this is the problem or not. Anybody have a B18C5 pressure plate and/or flywheel they can take the same measurements on? TIA

well, the PP will only go on one way
since the peg locations are assemetrical
I hope they tried to rotate the PP to put it on

And it really shouldn't matter too much about if it's B18C5 specific since I thought all B series had compatible and interchangable clutch/drivetrain components.
It would be funny though (what Dan said).

I guess it's not so baffling after all. I saw with my own eyes how it wasn't meshing together. If I had known the pegs were not identically spaced, I would have tried rotating it myself but there's a reason I'm not a mechanic. Thanks for the quick responses fellas.
Hey Dan (Dan GSR), I'm not sure if Marc has mentioned it to you but I'm planning on going to NYC when it warms up to hire your services. I'll bring the car, kalbi, beer and funds.
You wouldn't have any spare B18 pressure plates laying around for me to try my flywheel against would you?

Especially when you ask them to install aftermarket parts. Some service departments really shy away from that possibly due to liability issues.
i stopped taking my car to the dealer years ago because they consistently screwed up on torque specs. If they messed up on something that simply, I took it as an indication that the people working on the car didn't care too much about what they were doing. Now I know that the work is done right because i'm taking the care and time to do so.

It would have been hillarious if it didn't cost so damn much to do tranny work.

are you kidding me that they didnt try to rotate the PP or FW to line up the pegs? Ive only installed 1 clutch in my entire life (just a few weeks ago) and I knew to atleast TRY to rotate it when the pegs didnt line up the first time. Its common sense! :BFH:

Ditto. At least, I think I still have it lying around.

I thought Acura service departments were supposed to be ok with Comptech parts?

WTF eh? The dealership I bought mine from in Chapel Hole has Comptech banners hanging in the damn service bay, and brochures for Comptech parts in the lobby. Are Acura and Comptech no longer in bed together?
<-- Confused.

When I had issues with the bearings in the tranny the dealer I bought the caR from said it was due to the Comptech FW ...
I said prove it. but of course they could not.

Gotcha. That's the bad thing about dealers - they don't all read from the same book.
