Default What to look for when buying a used Head?

a guy from work said he has a b16 head with a skunk2 intake mani for sale, he claims the head is complete with distributor, vtec solenoid, etc.
unfortunately the bottom end took a **** and he claims the head is fine, but if you where to examine this head before you bought it, what exactly would u be looking for, i already know how to tell if its a pr3 head, etc etc. but damage/parts wise, what would u look for.

I'd start off by asking him exactly what happened to that bottom end..look for combustion chamber work/welding..you dont want that for sure...

he doesnt know what happened to the bottom end, he uses his garage for side work and he swapped a different motor into the guys car the b16 came out of, i believe he said it threw a rod through the block.

The combustion chambers should have black carbon in them, and thats about it. If you notice any smacks, smudges, gouges, knicks, etc, that might start changing your mind. Also bring feeler gauages and a straight edge and see if the head is warped. Not sure on the tolerance of warpage allowed, but someone around here should know.

I believe it is .oo1" per number of cylinders the head covers.
Ex:4 cyl=.004 of warp end to end.
Use a straight edge and measure in multiple places.

Hope this helps.
