Default Tranny Q: What did it sound like when your input shaft tranny bearing went bad???

I think the bearing in my YS1 may be bad...

but it doesn't sound like I though it would...I've had a bad throw-out bearing before...it was whinning until I would press the clutch pedal in. I thought the input shaft bearing might sound similar.
I hear kinda of a soft knocking until I press the clutch pedal in......or take the tranny out of gear.

I think the input bearing is spinning at idle...so I think I should hear it at idle too. I only hear this in gear...

what do u guys think?

You will hear the input bearing at idle and while driving (in gear). As soon as u push the clutch in, the noise should go away. Some people say it sounds like a helicopter noise, which in some cases it does and some it does not. One friend had a 91 DA and his would make 'helicopter' type noises at idle and in gear, the **** was real loud. Another friend in a 89 EF had his only make noise while driving and it did not sound like a 'helicopter.' Anyway, that particular bearing goes out all the time and when it finally fails, the seal gives out and oil gets all over the clutch and it will slip like crazy. So if u replace it, replace the seal too.
