Default B18C5 in EK coupe

Just a quick question in regards to my visit to the local test and tune session. My friend owns a 97' Civic DX coupe with a USDM type R I/H/E. He managed a 13.97 @ 97mph with a 2.18 60'. Is this unusually slow for a C5 swap in a coupe or is it typical? The E.T. seems in tune with the mph on street tires so some feed back involving others with C5 swaps would be helpful. Thanx.

Thank you. I drove relatively aggressive to aquire that E.T. although the 60' was dismal on drag radials. I just thought it should be quicker with that swap and wanted to see what other people are going. Although my friend going 14.00's with the identical swap in a lighter CX hatch was encouraging.

Those are all good times including the 60 foot time. MPH looks about right too.

He made several back to back 14.20 passes and I managed to nail a 13.97 on my first trial pass. I'm thinking if I would've had the opportunity to try a couple more times, I may have gotten down to the 13.70 range with 2.0 60's.

That is a damn fast time for that swap in that car. Nice work.

Thanx for all the kind and encouraging words guys. However I'm still weary to why it only ran high 13's. I've heard of Type-R swaps going mid 13's at 100-101mph on street radials. Whoever has the same swap with similiar mods, please shed some light. Thanx.

i think thats a pretty good time for a usdm motor. one of my buddy's had a 00SI coupe with a jdm R motor and i believe his best on drag radials was around 13.5xx to 13.6xx. did you run open header or full exhaust? you prolly would've hit a lower e.t. if you had more seat time since you said your first pass was the 13.97......you know the saying "practice makes perfect"........any pics of the car?

Nah, no pics I'm afraid. Just a plain jane silver DX coupe on old fat fives. It was ran on full exhaust shod on 205 G-forces. Do you recall his mph on either the 13.5 or 13.6 pass? I figure the mph should tell the difference in horsepower.

Good mph. I wish I would've had the opppprtunity to run on slicks. I had a set of 22x8x13's sitting in the trunk but I was too lazy (and cold) to bolt them on.

Strange, I had those slicks mounted on my 99' EK coupe, stock studs no problem. Had some different lugs though. I wonder if that made a difference.

nah i don't remember the exact mph that was about 2 yrs ago. the only diff. is the usdm has 190-195(i think) and the jdm has 200. the diff. between the two is the final drive and the compression on the jdm it has a 4.7 final drive and 11.0:1 and the usdm has a 4.4 and 10.8:1......either way i bet that badboy is fun as hell to drive. i am currently working on a bswap and can't wait to finish.......

you have a 00 Si correct? the si's have bigger calipers thats why you need the longer studs and spacers, so they will clear them. i ran into the same prob.
