Default well the time has come

i will be getting my income tax really soon..
and it is finally time to choose.
b16a
or b18c1 for my 88 crx si
i already know the c1 is more powerful.
my concern is...is it worth the extra 1500$ to get the b18 over the b16?
personally i not seeing much advantages for 15 more hp..
future plans will include rev hard turbo kit. so keep that in mind also.
i dont want any ls/vtec or non vtec suggestions.i have to have vtec.
i believe thats i'll add more later if need be..
please post up your votes and reasons why.

i couldn't be happier with my b16...plus....With that 1500% you could go and buy the ITR head and matte it up PERFECTLY...and have yourself one quick ride....
make sure you get a good tranny with that motor though i love my ys-1

Edit: "bigger is better" that's why his name is coot-er" j/k.....
i vote b16

Its not worth the extra 1500..Because not only do you have to spend 1500 extra for the b18c swap but you have to convert to obd1,and get a hasport hydro tranny kit which adds up to even more money..That extra money you will have to spend could have bought you the rev hard kit you want..

Also the b16 has lower compression which is better for turbo..I think the b18c is like 10:1:1 ..Its up there..
Also the b16 head flows better ..The only bad thing about the b16a is the fact that it's still a 1.6 litre..

Maybe you should think about a poorman-r..b18c block with a b16a (pr3) head

if your getting a turbo, go B18, faster spool times and the extra tq. is always nice. it will be all around more powerful, its hard enough to get tq. in a honda, so at least start off on the right foot.

I say go B16a then use the extra $1500-$2000 on building your B16a up.

I'd get the b16. My next purchase would be a b18c block. Build the block for boost and install the revhard kit.

It already has an ITR head. B16 head = PR3 = underworked ITR head, just needs cams, some valvetrain and IM, and a mild port job.

Definately go B18C1.

I have a B16, and the lack of torque really sucks. That and the cable B16 trannies are not the most bullet proof trannies around, they're getting old... it's 2005 already, so you're getting an old tranny. B18C1 will come with a newer, rebuildable tranny. Not to mention much more torque, and an all around more fun engine.

Go with the B18 over B16, you'll love the low end torque of the engines compared to the b16

do b16a and Blox type A cams get 20 more WHP and low to mid power instead of all high end like ITR and stuff

Actually, the B18C1 has the lower compression ratio - 10.0:1 vs 10.2:1 for the B16A.

sounds like i am really leaning toward the c1 ...
ok now next question.
where should i get the motor from?
i was looking at osaka at first cause we've ordered 2 diff sr20det's in the past and had great luck with them..
but then i've read all the problems other h~T members have had with them
which has got my cautious now.
so i guess my choices are
japanstar.
h-motors,
nippon..
are any of these okay i've heard h-motors is great. but the most$$
if i get a better deal from the other 2, and save a few hundred that would be helpful.

I'd stick with the b16a + a peak boost turbo kit down the line, but whatever motor you get, order from Steve at H motors, clean swaps, good guy and a great price on mounts when you buy a swap from him.

I have the b16a, Im happy with it. Its your money, if you can go b18c1 why not but the b16a will be an easier swap.

My vote goes to... :drumroll: the B18C1 !!!

I lost a lot of respect for the B16 after watching a couple B16 hatchbacks lose to an LS powered hatch w/ a B16 tranny. That was completely lame.

my vote goes to NEITHER. B18 man! if youre gonna boost then there you go. have you ever seen b16 dyno charts? theyre pitiful (like 250whp/170ftlbs or somethin dumb like that). I used to have a b16 . I thought it was awesome then i went b18b. then lsvtec. couldnt be happier.

Build the B16 with the 1500, run more boost that way, and kill any other standard unbuilt GS-R motor....

Get it from Hmotorsonline.com... any other place is just a risk, or a waste of money.

If you really want a b18c1 or b18c5, the wait until you get an EG chassis. So much easier to swap in...with the hydro clutch and OBD-1 wiring. Trust me.
