Default Running Rich??

I think that my 95 VTEC is running rich, There is black **** all over my exhaust pipe, and there is always a amsll stream of black smoke when im ON IT!

Last night i was racing a buddy with a CRX and when i shifted into third, i slammed in the clutch about 7000rpm and heard a really loud bang, and there was a thick stream of black smoke out the tail...

I have a AEM CIA, DC header, high flow cat, 140K miles, not so good O2 sensor and plugs/wires, anyone know what i can do to check this? or what it might be?

Preludes run rich stock, but this seems kind of excessive...try resetting the ECU and see if it leans it out. While you're at it, grab a VAFCII and lean it out to make a bit more power.

im willing to bet its 140K miles of being beat on and forgetting about regular maintenance. I saw a black 4th gen VTEC this morning on Moulton, was that you ?

No, it wasnt me, cause im in class right now at Riverside Community College....but i live about 1 mile away from Moulten and i race along that road all the time LOL but i have seen a black Si in Laguna Niguel, he says its got a HKS turbo....it sounded sick, but he wouldnt race me.... Where do you live?? did you go to high school around OC??

I need to get a VAFC for sure.... but if it is the 140K being beaten, then what do i need to do to fix it?? I know that there is not excessive Blow-By, so my rings are good....but i need to check compression....

could bad wires/plugs/O2 sensor all together cause a rich condition??

i got a compression tester. Well you dont know for sure if you actually are running rich. Pull the plugs and check them out. Brown is normal, black is rich, white is lean.

There really isnt anyone around this area that has a "fast car". You have much to learn oh new HT member. I used to go to Aliso Niguel.

I also went to aliso....i graduated 03...i used to have a red 88' camaro, with a good paint job, exhaust, and blackouts....you mighta seen it....but i crashed it a while ago

I do have much to learn....and i know that there are not that many 'fast' cars around....i know mines not that fast....but its stock, and i know that. The only thing ive done that actually made a diff is my Spec stage 3 clutch and Fidanza fly... best thing ever.

so if you live in Laguna Niguel area, we should meet up sometime, id love to borrow your compression tester.... and my plugs are full of black soot...but looks like the outer layer like on the terminal and the coil are whiteish.......

Preludes running rich is no news, but streams of black smoke-

I get on my 97 and the worst thing to happen is just black **** on my back bumper.

Me also, and from what I have grecently learned, a VAFC wont let you lean out anything except WOT. Can anyone confirm this?

And that **** is really sticky, 'cause if you don't wash it regularly (once every 1-2 weeks), it will be impossible to completely get it off...especially on my pearl white bumper.

I dont ALWAYS have smoke coming out of the tailpipe, my buddies have noticed it when im in VTEC tho....and then the other day when i freakin ignited the extra fuel in the exhaust...i think thats what happened??!!

So if i got a VAFC... might i be able to lean out my engine enough to compensate for the 'real' problem?? which im not sure of yet???

if so...should i go for the VAFC I or II?? is there a big diff between the two?? i am loow on money, so if i can get a VAFC I for a lot cheaper, then would that work??
