Default HELP!! MY ACCORD IS CRAZY!!!!!!!!

I bought this 2000 honda accord EX 4 cylinder 5 speed from a private seller. About a month later my car started revving repeatedly from 1500 rpms to 2500 rpms when i was in neutral!!!
The shop replaced the vacuum hose, transmission fluid, and idle valve. STILL DOES IT!! Brought it back in today and they say a bad o2 sensor? COuld this really cause my car to rev like that while idling and then completely die on my mid-road??? I NEED HELP!!!
I think its just a lemon!

NO, your thermostat is stuck in the open position, have it replaced.

that what the car does to help warm the engine up....if its doing it when you first start it up during the winter, thats normal, if its while driving, its the thermostat

2500 to warm up?? Neither of my Accords have ever gone that high. But its never very cold here either so maybe it varies with the weather

i live in massachusetts and ive never even seen my cars start up at 2500 last winter there was several days it was BELOW zero in the morning and even then it only revved to about 2200 for a quick second and then dropped to 2000 for a while before descending as usual...

What kind of stupid advice is this? The idle of a car wil not bounce between 1500 and 2500 to warm up. Also, i can you keyboard techs know it's the thermostat without even seeing the car?

Nakyama, if the shop says it's a bad o2 sensor. THen it could be. A couple of tests would be able to tell you that quite easily.

AGREED. your accord should never rev over 2k RPMS, even DEAD COLD.

I personally think it *may* be your IACV. You might want to take it off and clean it out if you are hands-on at all. I had a similar thing happen after a motor swap and it was the IACV causing the idle fluctuation.

OKay, Hello everybody and thanks for replying. I am a female. I purchased this car from a guy who was into the fast and the furious. It has the cold air intake and the aftermarket muffler, high performance clutch, short shifter, the whole nine. I think he totally ragged the car. The mechanics replaced the Idle Valve, and now the 02 sensor. SO FAR (2 days now) it hasn't fluctuated like that while idling. I wonder what the thermostat has to do with the problem. I have noticed that it seems like the idle will do that after the AC has been on. It's bizarre. And my fan only works intermittently. By the way, my car does this when its warm or cold. Could be in the morning or after I've been driving it for an hour or so. Doesn't matter. Any more suggestions?

Well, if the symptoms have not repeated yet, i would wait until it does it again to continue your search.

Now do you have a big sound system in there? If so, maybe your idle is fluctuating because of current drain when both your AC is on and playing some tunes.

Sit tight.

nope, no big sound system. Straight factory beats! I feel like he sold me a lemon I am going to try and sell it. I only paid $7000 for it and every other Accord that year model and body style was going for $10, 000 so maybe that's why it was so cheap.
AND another thing, my side airbag light keeps coming off and on? Could that be a loose fuse? And my lights on the dash that illuminate the AC controls don't light.
I am clueless.

Air bag lights are a bit tricky to diagnose without proper tooling... That's something your mechanic will have to look at.

Could be a bunch of things. Did it have an aftermarket deck prior to you buying it? I may well some shaffed or crossed wires somewhere.

What does your mechanic say?
